The Association of Civil and Environmental Engineering Students (Himatesil) of  Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) discussed Ngobrol Pintar” (Ngopi  Smart Chatting) related to the preparation of internship and field work. The event was held in Timbang Room, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (TSL) of Faculty of Agricultural Technology of Bogor Agricultural University (FATETA IPB), Campus IPB Dramaga, Bogor, on 7 April 2018.

The first NGOPI organized by Himatesil aims to keep the social relationship between alumni and students, and provide insight and motivation related to the preparation of internship, field work, and to get jobs in the job markets. The committee hopes that such event will be organized annually.

The current Ngopi present Gugi Yogaswara (TSL alumnus) as a speaker, and the meeting was  participated by more than 50 students of various cohorts of TSL.

Gugi said that there are many consequences that must be accepted in the apprenticeship and field works. An Apprenticeship is a combination of employment and training. On an apprenticeship, they study for qualifications while working and they learn the skills they need for the job they are doing. The apprentice’s learning takes place in context and provides a real understanding of the working world, combining practical skills with theoretical knowledge. Therefore they must have mature thinking in learning to take risks, and learning to succeed.

"The internship is an open, free learning process and we have to pick up. Learning through internships is a unique educational strategy aimed at making education more relevant and engaging. Unlike the job-training placements of prior reform generations, the Big Picture Learning approach to Learning through internships experiences is not intended to consign students to a vocational track that steers them away from college. Apprenticeships are also a particularly effective way to address employers' skills needs, as they are available for people of all ages and include those within the existing workforce. We must try to get a lot of knowledge and experiences in the field and even engaged in work activities," he said.

The analysis considers various factors including demographic characteristics of apprentices, aspects of their programme and an indicator of the local labour market context in which they participate in the apprenticeship. A counselor in a company may not provide facilities in learning if we are just silent and inactive. This will be seen from the factors of maturity and decision.

Not only that, Gugi also explained other consequences in the apprenticeship and field works. We must keep the good reputation of our alma mater during the apprenticeship process.

"Our qualifications will be evaluated and tested in the job markets later. The grade point average (GPA) does not reflect the mastery of science. Bad academic scores do not guarantee our inability to interact with our knowledge. High-Quality Assessment does not guarantee the level of quality in applying the knowledge they learned, "he said.
