Traditional Clothes from North Nias Regency for Rector of IPB

To develop fishery and marine in North Nias Regency, North Sumatera Province, the Regent of North Nias has established cooperation with Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was conducted between Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, and the Regent of North Nias, Mr.  Marselinus Ingati Nazara at the Rector Meeting Room,  IPB Campus, Dramaga, on 3 April 2018. On this occasion, Mr.  Marselinus presented Rector of IPB the traditional clothes from North Nias Regency.

On the occasion, the rector stated that the cooperation will be implemented in various fields. But at the moment it will be focused on fisheries and marine.

"Previously,  the North Nias Regency had established cooperative work with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FMIPA IPB), on education also on research program, "he said.

In the field of education, the Rector explained that IPB will accept its prospective students from the regular selection methods such as the National Selection of State University Entrance (SNMPTN) and Joint Selection Line for State Universities (SBMPTN), IPB Talent Test (UTMI), Beasiswa Utusan Daerah (BUD Regional Achievement Scholarship), and International and National Achievement (PIN). And currently IPB will invite the Chairman of OSIS of High Schools to study into IPB. These are the methods of IPB to produce excellent human resources to encounter challenges ahead.

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) is one of the most innovative campuses in Indonesia. IPB was listed as a university with the highest number of most prospective innovations in the list of the Most Prospective Innovations Indonesia published by Business Innovation Center Indonesia in collaboration with Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) RI, the index of Business Innovation Center (BIC) in 2017. Out of 1045 (one thousand forty five) most prospective innovations determined by Ministry of Research and Technology and Business Innovation Center (BIC), 407 (four hundred seven) or 38.95% Indonesian innovations were produced by IPB.

"It shows that IPB is highly developed. The next step, how to utilize those innovations in our daily life. So far, the  Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK IPB) has many experts. They can be utilized to support the improvement of fisheries sectors in Nias. Similarly, in education and animal husbandry, IPB will be capable to assist the North Nias to develop its regent," he said.

He expected that established cooperative work will continue to grow. The Regent hopes that North Nias will be the next field station of IPB, so far IPB has 100 field stations currently. Biological field stations provide living libraries and outdoor laboratories for students, researchers, and the general public interested in the environment. The field station of IPB are learning grounds for agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries.

Meanwhile the Regent of Kab. North Nias, Marselinus Ingati Nazara explained that  North Nias Regency was formed in 2008. The Nias Islands have great potential in the tourism and fisheries. These are fisheries areas that are less well known but have significant potential for.

"To explore deeper on the potential of our region, we want to establish cooperation with IPB. Hopefully, this MoU could have a big impact on North Nias. I am also very grateful that our younger generations  have successfully completed their studies in IPB, they have graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry Department, Physics Department, and Vocational School. I hope we will be given a wider opportunity for other North Nias youngers to be admitted into IPB," he said.

The signing of Mou was witnessed by Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information System, Prof. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Dr. Luki Adrianto and a number of IPB officials and the executive boards North Nias Regency. (Wied)
