IPB Nutrition Science Students Hunts Variety of Professional Choices for Nutritionists
The Students Association of Nutrition Science (Himagizi) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held a Seminar on Profession and Nutritionist Talk with the theme of “Our Competency To Think Nutritionally and Act Professionally”. The activity was held in GMSK Auditorium Dramaga Campus IPB (18/03).
The event was attended by 180 students of nutrition and students from University of Indonesia, Gunadarma University, Esa Unggul University, Purwakarta Holistic Stikes, Stikes Binawan, Stikes Mitra Keluarga, Muhammadiyah University Prof. Hamka, Veteran National Development University, PKN STAN, and SMA Islam PB Sudirman.
Chief Executive, Qhialdy Syira explained that the seminar was held as a means for nutrition students to know more about the nutrition profession in the world of work.
"After attending this seminar, nutrition students will know what to prepare after graduating from undergraduate program to hold the title of good nutrition profession in line with the rules of nutrition program," said Qhialdy.
The seminar speaker who is a lecturer of Nutrition Science IPB, Dr.Ir. Budi Setiawan M.Si, presented information on competence, roles, functions and challenges in the world of work that will be faced by graduates of nutrition graduate (nutritionist) and how to deal with it.
Furthermore the participants were briefed about the education program Registered Dietitian by Prof. Dr. Ir. Evi Damayanti, MS. Registered Dietitian or Nutrition Professional Education is an additional education program beside S1 and S2 with greater authority to make decisions related to the nutrition profession than S1, S2, and S3 degree programs.
Not only information related to the competence of a nutritionist, participants are also invited to think more open and creative in looking at the nutrition profession. On the occasion, Mury Kuswary S.Pd, M.Si sports nutritionist, explained the opportunities of the nutrition profession in the midst of increasing obesity cases in the world and how to take advantage of these opportunities by becoming a personal consultant.
"This is an opportunity for nutritionists to provide diet suggestions as well as exercise tips," he said.
Meanwhile, in the final material, Daniel Furqon, S.Gz, conveyed the way of nutritionists to introduce their profession to the wider community. Participants were invited to be more creative in marketing their knowledge to produce many opportunities in the world of work.
"The program is very exciting because we can know more about nutrition profession and its subject of interest, such as clinical nutrition, community nutrition, etc. This kind of professional seminar is very rarely conducted, so it is very interesting to participate. Through this event we can get broader knowledge on nutrition profession and also choose which nutrition subject to be deepen explore namely community nutrition, sport nutrition, or dietitian nutrition, "said Fatin Triananda Kumara Putri from Nutrition Science of Mitra Keluarga Stikes.
