IPB Students Win the Economic Debate Competition at Higher Education Level

The spirit for achievement continues to be done by students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Brilliant achievement was achieved on holiday season. This time, three students of IPB delegation won the first prize of Debate Competition at Higher Education Level in Indonesia. This competition was held by Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi (STIE) Madani Balikpapan on 2-3 February 2018.

IPB delegates in this debate competition consisted of Randi Firmansyah (Department of Communication and Community Development), Apip Nurdin (Department of Biology), and Rifat Abdat (Department of Soil Science and Land Resources). This competition is an annual event of STIE Madani, and is the largest event summarized in the Madani Festival. To win this competition, they must compete with teams from other universities in Indonesia.

This creative economic debate competition was quite tight. Starting from the elimination round to the semifinals, they were confronted by teams from various universities all over Indonesia. Prior to joining this competition, the participants were selected by writing essays on the potential of creative industries in Indonesia. Several teams qualifying for the competition then went to Balikpapan.

"We are very enthusiastic in participating in this competition. Although the topics in this debate are related to the economy, we are able to become the champion of this competition. The participants from other universities even have many basic economics. It is a proof that the students of IPB are able to adapt to the knowledge in various fields," said Randi, an IPB delegate.

Expressing arguments and solutions in this competition became a challenge for three of them. Interestingly, this competition was the first experience for one of the team members, Rifat Abdat. After competing from the elimination round to the grand-final round, finally the Sciencepreneur team from IPB won first prize in this competition. (TK)
