Rector: IPB is Ready to Sharpen the Potentiality of OSIS Chairman
Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dr. Arif Satria, again produced and presented its current 750 graduates in the Open Session for the Graduation Day of Phase V of the Academic Year 2017/2018, on Wednesday, 21 February 2018, at Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor. At the present commencement, IPB handed over graduate certificates for doctoral degree, Master of Science degree, Veterinary Profession, and Bachelor degree holders.
On this occasion, the Rector congratulated graduates on the success of completing their education. Furthermore, the Rector said, the dynamics of higher education in Bogor Agricultural University today are driving the demand for a new set of skills and capabilities for tomorrow's leaders. The quality of prospective students is one of the important factors to produce graduates who meet high competency standards and are able to compete at national and global level. Therefore, IPB always strives to get the best students through the selection mechanism of new student candidates, by innovating in the selection of new students.
"Including the year 2018 will open a new path to IPB selection, the path of OSIS Chairman or leadership talent path. This year, IPB has developed a novel selection scheme to select new intakes through the special path, selecting Chairman of Organisasi Intra Sekolah (OSIS Intra School Organization) who are qualified academically to be admitted as student of IPB. This scheme is one of the independent selection to find prospective students who have proven to have leadership. As chairman of OSIS while they are high school, shows they have strong leadership spirit. Sufficient academic ability or high intellectual ability are important factors for future leader. IPB will hone their potential to be candidates for the leaders of the nation either in technopreneur, technocrat, sociopreneur, or in other fields. It is expected that IPB Insha Allah will be able to become a trend setters change this nation into a strong, sovereign and independent Indonesia, "said Rector.
Rector also said that this year, IPB is committed to becoming a preeminent global university – one which prepares its students and faculty to actively participate in knowledge-based collaborations around the world. "Of course, IPB will accept prospective students from the regular selection methods such as the National Selection of State University Entrance (SNMPTN) and Joint Selection Line for State Universities (SBMPTN) and Mandiri Method are applicable we continue to hold by continuing to improve the quality of prospective students. Therefore, I hope that all graduates can become IPB ambassadors to promote IPB, invite friends and relatives to enrol IPB students, and invite the Charirman of OSIS to pursue their higher degree program in IPB, "added Rector.
Regarding the role of IPB in the development of the state-of-the-art science (frontiers), the Rector said that IPB must be part of the solution to all real issues in the community as well as become the main reference in the field of tropical agriculture, marine and bioscience both nationally and globally. In the year 2018 IPB will establish Center for Sustainability Science and Halal Center. The Center for Sustainability Science will help fill this gap, through the work of the Conservancy with corporate partners and policymakers to identify and implement nature-based solutions to solve societal challenges. As IPB understand the value of nature and nature-based solutions is a pioneering institutional strategy that can lead to improved decision-making and enhancement of a institution’s long-term sustainability,”
In addition, IPB is directed to produce concrete innovation in mobilizing people's economy in agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and marine sector as well as strengthening national industry. IPB will always be there in the middle of local farmers, fishermen, farmers, communities around the forest to strengthen food sovereignty, energy, maritime, and environment. That's why the theme of future research must be accompanied by the spirit of innovation for national independence. A strategic plan looks at all the things of such plan, soon IPB will develop the TANI Center as the opened door for farmers to access technological innovations and information of IPB, as well as farmers' channel to share their experience to assist IPB to improve its agricultural science.
Therefore, the Rector invites lecturers, researchers, students, and alumni of IPB to continuously and seriously develop research, scientific publications, and innovation with a new spirit, the spirit to inspire the world, the spirit to give something to the world, and the spirit to contributing to the changing world. "With that spirit, then our daily life will be more colourful with uploading and not downloading activity.
