The Signing of MoU between IPB and Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, for the Development of Its Agriculture
The Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dr. Arif Satria, and Tanah Bumbu Regent, South Kalimantan, Mardani H. Maming, had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 14 February 2018. The draft of cooperation agreement includes among other, the education, research programs, animal husbandry and fishery development, and community services.
Coincide on this occasion, the Head of Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM), Dr. Prastowo, has also signed MoU with the Head of Agricultural Services of Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, H. Setia Budi, SKM, MM on the development of agribusiness of rice production for the quality rice seeds and consumption, and coaching for Animal Husbandry School, and IPB Goes to Field (IGTF); with the Head of Marine and Fishery Services of Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Fauraji Akbar, S.P on the assistantships for fishery and shrimp farming development; with the Head of Public Works and Spatial Planning of Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Roy Rizali Anwar, MT., on management of irrigation systems for agricultural lands; and with CEO of PT. Udang Mariani Enam Sembilan, H. Rois Sunandar Maming, for the development of coastal shrimp aquaculture, livestock business development, and mentoring of modern rice processing factory.
The Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, welcomed the cooperation with Tanah Bumbu Regency of South Kalimantan Province. "Bogor Agricultural University provides several programs on the development and technology transfer with respect to agriculture, fisheries, and animal husbandry. We are willing to send our experts in their respective fields and students to Tanah Bumbu Regency, and work together to transfer science and technology to develop the agricultural sector in a broad sense, "he said.
The Rector stressed that Agriculture is by far the biggest business of the world, agriculture will answer all problems. Well-managed agricultural operations are an important part of food self-sufficiency, accordingly other aspects will also be resolved slowly. "It is expected that Tanah Bumbu Regency will develop its agricultural capacity, that includes both crop and animal husbandry and fisheries to produce the food requirements of humankind. I see the great potentials of Tanah Bumbu regency, so in the future they will be capable to explore potential sources of local revenue of the region, "explained the Rector.
Regent of Tanah Bumbu, Mardani H. Maming, stated, "I want to cooperate with IPB academicians who are expertise in agriculture, livestock and fishery. Especially in the coaching for the rice nursery program to get the superior and good quality rice seedlings ".
He added that Tanah Bumbu District is currently focusing on the development of rice and maize cropping systems, and establishing quality rice seeds producers and planned to make Tanah Bumbu as the 'Mandiri Seed Area'. "We hope the MoU will be implemented optimally, in order to improve food security of Tanah Bumbu regency," said the regent. (Wied)
