Consolidation Workshop on Animal Husbandry School in IPB
Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI) and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Bogor of Agricultural University (FAPET IPB) organized a Workshop on Consolidation Sekolah Peternakan Rakyat (SPR School of Animal Husbandry) in Senate Meeting Room, Rectorate Building Andi Hakim Nasoetion, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 5 February 2018. Chairman of the AIPI Basic Science Commission, Prof. Dr. Mien Achmad Rifai, stated that the SPR 1111 concept developed by IPB on 2013 in Indonesia is the consolidation of hundreds of breeders in each SPR location. The ownership scale of those breeders are 2-3 cows per breeder, to a minimum of 1,000 cows breeding stock. This amount, he explained, can be achieved in one village or more.
"IPB supported by qualified human resources and its science and technology has improved the knowledge, management and business pattern, as well as the breeding skills of breeders in the SPR, thus formulated a strong, united, militant ranch in collective business congregation," said Prof Mien Achmad.
Accordingly, the AIPI Basic Science Commission pays attention through the Consolidation of SPR Development under the theme "Konsolidasi Peningkatan Kapasitas Peternak Rakyat (Consolidation of Capacity Building for Smallholder Farmers)". The aimed of the workshop was to formulate training program for the breeders community to be well- prepared, and to improve their educational skill as generally their educational background are primary and secondary education only.
This consolidation event is one of a series of AIPI Annual Programs, to be carried out in cooperation with various universities and institutions, and Scientific Organizations in the framework of Public Outreach and Science Literacy.
This workshop was initiated by FAPET IPB, and was supported the National Nuclear Energy Agency of Republic of Indonesia (BATAN), and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information System of IPB, Prof. Dr. Dodik Nurochmat said the consolidation was important, especially to improve the professional performance of SPR. " SPR’ like Management has been carried out in many countries. They were consolidated, no-one plays alone. They hire managers to manage farmers' businesses. I hope SPR will apply such method. In the future we should promote this modern concept to young people," said Prof. Dodik.
Head of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB), Dr. Prastowo, explained that LPPM IPB has established 26 SPRs in Indonesia. "Those newly established institutions are ready to be revitalized in the near future, for their improvements. At the end of 2017, some business institutions contacted us expressing their willingness to participate for the revitalization of the SPRs, those business institutions mong others are investors from East Java, some private companies and Infrabanx Canada for Indonesia. Infrabanx planned to develop a thousand SPR. It's really a pride for us, "said Dr. Prastowo.
The series of events were scheduled, among others the presentation of institutional views on the implementation of SPR, namely from the National Nuclear Energy Agency of Republic of Indonesia (BATAN); Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health; Infrabanx and AIPI. (Wied)
