BMTD Bidik Misi go to fields of IPB Students for Human Resources Development of Legok Nyenang Village
Since 2010, the government has launched scholarships (Bidik Misi) for outstanding students who come from underpriviledged families. The scholarships aim to motivate them to study harder and achieve to become future leaders of the nation. In addition, it is expected that Bidik Misi will inspire the recipients to act with a positive purpose in all that they do for their future careers in their community for the good of all. As state university, students of Bogor Agricultural University are entitled to get such scholarships, more than thousand students of IPB have been granted the scholarships every year. To express their happiness, the Bidik Misi awardees of Bogor Agricultural University have organized some association recently, they named their program Bidik Misi Turun Desa (BMTD Bidik Misi go to fields). This community was emerged by Zamaludin, a student of the Department of Science of Communication and Community Development of the Faculty of Human Ecology (SKPM FEMA) and Agus Harianto, the Student of the Department of Agribusiness, of the Faculty of Economic Management (AGB FEM).
"Initially BMTD was established to improve the living standard of Legok Nyenang village of Bogor Regency, for the development of education and economics of the communities. Their reference action was based on the senior activities, the cohort 2012 which organized youth center for reading. The program had successfully won the Student Creativity Program (PKM), as result they established cooperatives for the community as well as training program for handicraft making made of bamboo, "explained Rezki, a student of Department of Industrial Technology of Agriculture, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University (Fateta IPB) who is Chairman of BMTD 2017.
According to Rezki, BMTD is a community of people who have a high social life, a community for people who care about education, and want to repay for the scholarships they get from the government, who want to make their mind off of the university. So far BMTD has 90 active members who have sit in their senior classes.
The various program are planned by BMTD, currently they focus their program on education as well as on community development. "One of our activities is teaching the children in the village routinely and in some opportunities we provide qurban for them. For the community development, we have planned to develop business programs for female communities such as brownies products made of purple yam, "he explained.
Rezki explained that funding support for BMTD programs are scared, somewhat difficult to develop further. "Our current challenge is how to find ideas for the development of PAUD posts, and find donors and branding," he said.
For future program, BMTD has targeted to develop community resources available in the Legok Nyenang village by developing the food and agricultural products processing industries. Further he explained, in addition to community development, BMTD will also develop the early childhood development (PAUD), as part or under the supervision of PAUD BMTD. "We hope that BMTD-assisted villages will be an inspiration for other villages, and BMTD itself is a pioneer for community service community in IPB Campus," he said. (Wied)
