Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, sang "Indonesia Pusaka" national song, and  the beautiful melody of this song was bound to touch the hearts of every parent, grandparent and friends of the graduates at their graduation ceremony, on 13 December 2017.  Graduation Phase III of  Academic Year 2017/2018 was very special because this was the last graduation in his term of his office after ten years serving as Rector of IPB since 2008. Not only caused the drifted in devotion as a nation through the national song that was performed, Rector also sang an enchanted (syahdu) song "Rumah Kita", a song that is interpreted as an expression of love, pride and togetherness in a big house named Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Tears of graduates and audiences spilled in Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), where the graduation ceremony was carried out.

In his valedictory speech of Rector expressed that on 15 December 2017, his post as Rector of IPB will be terminated. Further, he reported the  IPB's achievements  made during his term which made us proud of.

Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) again produced and presented  its current 750 graduates in the Open Session for the Graduation Day of Phase III of the Academic Year 2017/2018. At this graduation ceremony, IPB handed over diplomas to 750 graduates, consisting of 10 doctoral degree holders, 165 Master of Science degree holders, 15 graduates holding master's degree in management, 3 Professional Master holders, 7 Veterinary Profession, and 550 553 Bachelor degree holders.

Graduation was led by the Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto. On behalf of the entire academic communities of IPB, the rector congratulated the graduates for the successful completion of education.

He said that in the current and future global era, the crucial problems in national development are expected to remain in the effort to meet the basic needs of food, shelter, health and education. To deal with these crucial issues, Indonesia must continually make improvements and strive to realize the ideals of independence. Indonesia must be able to run democratic decision-making processes, painstaking process of policy-making based on science-based evidence, develop human and cultural resources, to realise the vision of becoming the most innovation-driven economy, maintain equitable resource allocation and balanced regional development, and strengthen the rule of law.

Rector asserted, as a state university legal entity with major competencies in agriculture, marine, and tropical bioscience. The role and contribution of IPB to respond the nation's problems has been performed by educating students of becoming a globally competent student. Given the complexity of the crucial problem, IPB must use a transdisciplinary approach in formulating solutions and executing the formulation. Therefore, IPB needs to develop sustainability sciences based on complexity paradigm. IPB needs to strengthen the relevance of the University Tridharma for implementation of economic development by developing innovation and business. The national and  global development trends challenge IPB to respond appropriately by presenting solutions based on a complete and balanced new approach in the IPB development model as a techno-socio-entrepreneurial international university as embodied in the IPB 2019-2045 Long Term Plan.

Rector expected that the graduates will strengthen their motivation to become entrepreneurs with IPB-based competence in agriculture, marine and tropical bioscience. Rector said that IPB has run various entrepreneurship development programs, both for students and alumni. This entrepreneurship development has been conducted in various programs, among others, the Entrepreneurship Student Program (PMW) and the Young Entrepreneurship Farm Program (PWMP). In addition, IPB also built a teaching farm to produce young entrepreneurs in agriculture called Sarana Belajar Mahasiswa Wirausaha (Sabisa Student Entrepreneur Learning Facility) Farm in Sindangbarang, Bogor.

He added that on 4 November 2017 IPB launched Techno Socio Enterpreneur Network (TechnOsNet), it is one of the programs of IPB Science and Techno Park. The establishment of the network is expected to support the development of youth start-up Indonesia. I hope that this TechnOsNet will become the home to 100 techno socio entrepreneurs in Indonesia in 2020 with a creative, innovative, and a contributive spirit.

Rector reported that several innovations of IPB research result which are expected to support the improvement of IPB's role in mainstreaming agriculture is LAPAN IPBSatellite, a satellite technology used to know the areal of paddy field and harvest area; rice varieties IPB3S which is the result of breeding rice crops with higher yields; the Saturated Water Cultivation Method to increase national soybean production; Transporter of Fastrex Fruit Bunches as a means of transporting fresh fruit bunches of oil palm; The School of Animal Husbandry (SPR) as a model of field schools that provide counseling to farmers; and Sea Farming as a highly prospective method of increasing fishery production capacity.

"In its 54th anniversary, IPB has made a variety of impressive achievements.  Alhamdulillah, in the early 2017, the international rating agency QS announced that IPB became one of 100 best universities in the world version of QS World University Ranking by Subject i.e. Agriculture and Forestry. On 17 August 2017, IPB reached the 3rd rank after UGM and ITB in PTN Indonesia cluster held by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). In addition, IPB was awarded the 1st National Widyapadhi Award by Kemenristekdikti. Widya Padhi Awards is an award for science and technology development and it is organized by Kemenristekdikti RI in order to appreciate Higher Education Institutions which carries out reliable and quality research programs and have made innovative products, have established innovation center facilities, training institute of trainer (ToT), incubation institution and cooperative works with industry.  Similar awards were also given  to ITB as the second rank and UGM for the third rank of, "said Rector.

IPB in ten consecutive years (2008-2017), became the biggest contributor of innovation in Indonesia's Most Prospective Innovation as listed in the Business Innovation Center (BIC) Indonesia. This publication was published  in cooperation with Kemenristekdikti RI / Indonesian Institute of Sciences. 407 innovations or 38,9 percent out of total 1,045 innovations of Indonesia, are produced by Bogor Agricultural University. Various innovations IPB have been successfully marketed to enter the commercialization stage either through PT BLST as holding company of IPB or through partnership programs with  other companies. A few months ago, PT BLST was awarded Intellectual Property Enterprise Thropy by World Intellectual Property Organization.

An exciting news was received by IPB as the rank of IPB in Asia based on Asia University Ranking (AUR) rose sharply from 191 rankings last year into rank 147 this year. "IPB needs to continue to develop a spirit of togetherness because the achievement is not only resulted by  individual but it is our institutional working. I really hope that the alumni of IPB can continue to improve and develop the existing cooperation for the progress of the alma mater. The present graduation has added the total number of IPB graduates into 148,893 alumni.
