The Department of Conservation of Forest Resources and Ecotourism of the Faculty of Forestry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAHUTAN IPB) and the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FMIPA IPB) in cooperation with Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, University of Salzburg,  organized ASEA Uninet Interdisciplinary Faculty Development Workshop. The event with the theme "Geospatial Application of Satellite Generated Atmospheric and Climatic Data (clim-SAT) was organized on Monday – Friday, 23-27 October 2017, at Silva Fahutan Convention Room, Dramaga IPB Campus, Bogor. This activity was fully supported by  the Directorate of Research and Innovation IPB.

The first item in the workshop program was General Lecture, implemented on 23 October 2017, at FMIPA Auditorium, Campus IPB, Dramaga, Bogor. It was attended by 120 participants. The Dean of FMIPA IPB, Dr. Sri Nurdiati, said that Global Warming is already affecting the human kind, plant and animals in number of ways through increased ocean levels, droughts and changed weather patterns. As the global temperature will increase, plants will find it harder to survive and will die. Plants are the major source of food for human beings and as a result food shortage may occur. "It is often observed, directly or indirectly through television or newspapers, the magnitude of the damage caused by extreme climates, so through this five-day workshop, I hope to share my experience and knowledge to minimize the risks posed by these problems," she said.

She added that such international cooperation is really required, as it will contribute significantly the strong future collaboration between all institutions involved in this activity.

Three resource persons were invited for this General Lecture, namely Prof. Dr. Lilik Budi Prasetyo from FAHUTAN IPB who talked on lessons learned from the development of Satelite LAPAN IPB; Prof. Dr. I Nengah Surati Jaya of the FAHUTAN IPB, who presented his presentation on Causes and Impacts of Climate Change; and Dr. Shahnawaz of Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, Austria, who discussed  Spatio-temporal variation in aerosol data with Indian case studies.

The organizing committee, Dr. Imas Sukaesih Sitanggang, who is also faculty member of the Department of Computer Science of FMIPA IPB explained the purpose of this workshop. This special event was organized as to provide the forum for exchange and sharing knowledge on the applications of climate and weather data generated by satellite among ASEA Uninet members. In addition, the event was also to initiate and strengthen the academic network for cooperation among several higher education institutions.

This activity was participated by 25 (twenty five) participants who have passed the selection processes, the participants were as follows: 10 (ten)  from Indonesia, 7 (seven)  from Malaysia, 2 (two) from the Philippines,  and 6 (six) from Thailand.
