Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) established the Sports and Arts Unit as Education and Skills Learning Support Unit. The newly established Unit is a reliable unit for the development of attitude in fundamentals of professional care discipline, honesty and sportsmanship fighting spirit. Most importantly, it will support the physical fitness of the communities of  IPB and the general public as well. The Head of Sports and Art Unit of IPB, Prof. Dr. Khaswar Syamsu, said that the indicator for the success of the Sports and Art Unit of IPB is the consumer satisfaction.

"Each year we distribute questionnaires for our users to find out our customers satisfaction, and we always listen and follow up their complaints about the facilities we provide." Follow up actions of the complaints then are carried out by the Sports and Arts Unit by improving its facilities for consumers satisfaction, "he said.

Referring to the duties and functions of the Sports and Arts Unit of IPB, it serves annual programs for both intra- and extra-curricular activities, institutional activities of IPB, and pupils and the community at large. The Sports and Arts Unit of IPB has a wide variety of sports and outdoor facilities that are suitable for any sports. Sports facilities at the IPB are used by students, staff and community. In addition, the Sports and Art Unit of IPB is also open to rental in order to organize the sports event. Main functions of Sports Centre is to support the university goals which is to produce quality and competitive students in order to improves and upgrade soft skills through sports programs. The sports facilities and infrastructures that apply in the consists of free quota of Sports and Arts courses, free quota for Student Family Student Executive Board (BEM KM) and Student Creativity Unit (UKM) Sports IPB. "For regular customers who use more than ten times in a year, they are entitled to get one free use of the facility," he explained.

The eligible users may use all sports facilities during their opening hours, upon production of a valid identification card issued by the Sports and Art Unit IPB.  Students or the general public who use sport facilities and infrastructure must follows the rules and regulations established of the Sports and Art Unit IPB.  Proper footwear is necessary to protect individuals, as well as the facility. All types of tobacco use are prohibited. All sports venues are smoke-free. Smoking is not permitted.

The Sports and Arts Unit of IPB provides various services for its students sport and recreational amenities like soccer fields and badminton schools. In the future, the Unit planned to provide table tennis school for elementary, junior and senior high school students as its community service. "We understand the potential of young people on sports, we don’t want them waste their time and help them make healthy choices and avoid drug abuse. Such schools are intended particularly for the communities of 17 villages and sub-district around the campus, but anyone who interested in may join the schools. The Unit will provide free balls, net, etc. for them. Users will pay dues, and they will utilized for the honorarium for the coaches, "he said.

There are other facilities provided such as the 1,430 sqm tennis courts by the Sports and Art Unit of IPB. This court  meets the SEA Games standards, as it is similar to the one established in Jakabaring, South Sumatra. The futsal courtyard with parakeets is one of the best futsal fields used for national level futsal matches. So is the badminton hall in the gym (GOR) which is one of the best badminton field in Bogor, that had been used for Porda West Java.

Various supporting elements are planned in order to improves and upgrade the  Sport Centres such as providing shady trees around the halls and the Unit is committed to support the Green Campus implementation. "For exercises fresh air is required, so we cultivate  variety of oxygen-generating trees. We want the green vacant land, we plant trees and fruit trees as well," he said. (Wied)
