Finalist of Mr. Tourism from Riau Islands Invited the Foreign Student of IPB to Teach Language
Teguh Wahyu Permana, the student of Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH), Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) managed to escape the Grand Final of Mister Tourism Indonesia in Bali (28/9 – 1/10) representing Riau Islands. Mr. Tourism Indonesia was an annual event organized by Yayasan Putra Pariwisata Indonesia in cooperation with Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Environment.
Teguh was the graduate of SMAN 1 Bintan, Riau Islands who successfully entered IPB through the path of Beasiswa Utusan Daerah (BUD). The path of BUD was the acceptance of the new students recommended and financed by the central governments, the local governments, the companies or private institutions, who if graduated they were expected to return to the regions to build the areas.
As one of its community service program, Teguh initiated Bakti Pemuda untuk Negeri with the theme of Fun With English to Develop Sustainable Tourism. This activity was held at Yayasan Arrohman, Cikarawang, Dramaga, Bogor (20/9). Teguh invited seven students from France, Australia, Lebanon, Madagascar who were studying in IPB to participate in this activity. The foreign students played the ecomonopoly ladder snakes with the orphans and the dhuafa / the poor.
“The purpose of this activity is the education of the enviornmental care since early that is campaigned for the children to remember easily. We want to teach the children that we visit a tourist spot, we must be a wise visitor to the environment. For example by bringing the tumbler and the reusable bag. Other than that, we also provide the environmental science to the children through the learning media to the children with the fun english camp cooperation with the student exchange in IPB. We give the basic speaking, so that the children can learn English,” said this Putra Maritim Indonesia Persahabatan 2016.
According to him, the tourism sector in the Island of Bintan was very promising. But unfortunately, most of the incoming investors did not empower the local community. Although, it was already established a resort belonging to a foreign investor, but the local community only worked as the laborers and the servants.
Other than that, Teguh and his friends also developed the application of “Home Island” which was the application of booking the “Home Stay” in Riau Islands. The goal was to lift the indigenous welfare.
“Tourists can book the 'Home Stay' directly through this application. During this time, the booking is directly to the residents’ homes. If the tourists do not know the information on which residents’ homes that provide the homestay, there will be no message," he said.
The “Home Island” application was designed to provide information on the existence of the “home stay” based on the coastal community. Other than that, there were also the culinary service, the souvenir shop and even service or the donation icon, where the visitor could donate to the surrounding community either in the form of books or other assistance.
Currently, Teguh already took a number of travel agents that would help the operational of the applications. He had also captured more than 20 people who were ready to become the “Home Stay” for the tourism in the Island of Bintan.(Zul/Laily)
