The Department of Forest Products of IPB Produces Qualified Graduate Equals with Those Graduating from Similar Departments in the USA
The Department of Forest Products (DHH) of the Faculty of Forestry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAHUTAN IPB) has a vision to be the international institution of higher education in producing qualified human resources and developing Science and Technology (IPTEK) in the field of forest product utilization technology. The Department of Forest Products Technology of FAHUTAN IPB has become one of the national reference in the field of forestry.
Chairman of the Department of Forest Products, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fauzi Febrianto, MS stated that the Department's mission is to implement the tri dharma of the University program to produce highly qualified graduate with high competencies on forest products technology to develop innovation of IPTEKS to contribute to increasing productivity and efficiency of forest products industry.
The Department of Forest Products of IPB had been granted its international accreditation from the Society of Wood Science and Technology (SWST), of Monona, Wisconsin, the USA since 2010. "IPB's current rival are international forestry schools abroad, as we are internationally accredited. Thus, the graduates of the Department of Forest Products of IPB are equivalent to the same study programs in he USA, "explained Prof. Fauzi. The international accreditation is expected to be useful for the Department to establish more cooperation with international institutions and the quality of students and its graduates.
The Department of Forest Products of IPB was established in 1969, the oldest forest products Department in Indonesia. The Department is focusing on the development of scientific and technological forest products covering the chemistry of forest products, biocomposites, technology of wood quality improvement, design and engineering of wood structures.
The Department of Forest Products of IPB applies accountable, transparent and recognized management principles at the national and international levels. One of them is to adopt ISO 9001 quality management system standard.
Prof Fauzi Febrianto said that the Department of Forest Products of IPB continues to contribute to the development of Indonesia, "The Department of Forest Products of IPB contributes to the provision of qualified human resources that meet national and international standards. We have many international programmes for our students one of which is student exchange program and others, this international program provide opportunities for students to learn what their colleagues abroad do, in addition the program also provide students with international insights to improve their competitiveness. This international program has been established for three years, and this year the Department planned to send students to Korea, "he added. One of the Department of Forest Products of IPB graduates who have brought Indonesia's name to the international scene is Achmad Solihin, a PhD student who was awarded the Schweighofer Prize 2017, a European forestry awards for young innovators.
