To Commemorate World Water and Forest Day 2017 BEM FPIK IPB Organized Come Eat Free Fish Festival

Gema Perikanan (GPK Echoes of Fisheries) is one the annual programs of Student Executive Board (BEM) of  Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK IPB), Bogor, which was organized  on Sunday, 17 September 2017.   This GPK event was held in commemoration of World Water and Forest Day and also Come Eat Fish in the form of Water Festival which is routinely held every year.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee of  GPK, Wibi Prawira Priangga, explained the advantages of organizing such event for the whole members of the community consisted of  children to parents. The event was to promote the conservation of fishes, especially to increase the awareness of the communities that fish should be preserved and cultivated. This activity was participated by students, faculty members and the community around the campus.

GPK was participated and attended by all groups of Students, Lecturers, and Communities around IPB campus, Dramaga, Bogor,  precisely in the vicinity of Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW) building. "The main event of GPK is to promote love to eat fish. We expected that the program will explain to the entire community around the campus instead of livestock meat, fishes also have many benefits for the health of the body and improve the intelligence of children, " said Wibi.

The GPK committee hopes that such  activity will be planned annually as this kind of  program is the sixth most frequent activity, GPK can attract people to eat fish, because so the importance of fish for body health and improvement of children's intelligence. Various methods were planned by the Organizing Committee to promote the program and attract the more visitors to come, such as GPK booth making, socialization in social media, socialization to  nearby schools, organizing colouring contest for kindergarten and elementary school, fishing competitions, and so forth.

One of the visitors to the GPK booth who didn’t want to be named, said that GPK Come Eat Free Fish is very useful for me. In addition improving my knowledge on the species and benefits of fish,  I also learn how important we cultivate and to be taken care of.

One of member of the Organizing Committee of  GPK Come Eat Free Fish Campaign, Bani Wahyu Nugroho stated that this program was very beneficial for the community. Especially o promote that fish is a high-protein, low-fat food that provides a range of health benefits. White-fleshed fish, in particular, is lower in fat than any other source of animal protein, and oily fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, or the "good" fats." Said Bani Wahyu Nugroho. (Wied)
