Prof. Dr. Ir. Nurjanah, Professor Chair Holder of the Department of Aquatic Product Technology, of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK IPB) together with her colleagues initially examined the ratio of seaweed Eucheuma cottonii and Tubinaria conoides as a formula for sunscreen cream. The price is affordable for public at large, only 55,000 rupiah people can get natural seaweed-based cream.
"The sunscreen cream formulated by Prof Nurjanah does not contain microbes. Antioxidants are an important element because they help to neutralize free radical activity that may occur with extensive sun exposure. Thus this SPF cream is categorized to have extra capabilities," she explained.
Prof. Nurjanah explained that seaweed is featured ingredient in all our products. We chose seaweed as it could be the key ingredient to protect our skin from harmful UV rays. It seems that a particular algae offers its very own form of sun protection and when mixed with crustacean shells, the outcome has huge potential in the world of natural skin products. to natural sunscreen for protection against skin cancer, according to new research. Good physical stability is evident in her research which shows no change in color, odor, and phase separation coupled with pH value of cream dosage that has been compliant with SNI and pH of normal human skin balance.
Currently natural sunscreen creams from seaweed are produced in Raw House (RRL) located in Kavling Anggraeni Blok A, RT 5 RW 3, Cihideung Ilir Village, Ciampea. This business has earned the status of Prospective Beginner Technology-Based Company (CBPPT) granted by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Directorate of Higher Education.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the processing of seaweed. RRL not only sells sunscreen cream. There are four products developed namely Pomade, Lipbalm, Masker and Face Cream, added Rini Yanuarti the RRL production manager as well as students whose research is on sunblock cream product.
