Inaugural Lectures for Batch 1 of the Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program of IPB

Faculty of Animal Science of Bogor Agricultural University (FAPET IPB) has established the 1st Batch of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program, recently. The inaugural lecture was officially opened by Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Fapet IPB, Prof. Dr. Sumiati.

Some items of the Program for the Opening Ceremony of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program was the introduction of students as well as the designated faculty members for the program, and description of the courses offer for the newly established the Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program in general. Knowing class-mates and their lecturers  and understanding the subjects they  going to learn are necessary. Students of the Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program are not only from IPB, but also from various universities, such as Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), Andalas University (UNAND), Jambi University (UNJAM), and others. Most of them are fresh graduates, but some are working students who are sent by their respective home institutions.

The total number of active students in newly opened program is 13 students, they were selected  from the total of 50 applicants. It is scheduled that every batch of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program will only admit maximum of 15 students. Students who met the criteria set by the admission committee of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program is 13 students," explained the Coordinator of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program, Dr. Despal.

Animal logistics is a multidisciplinary area that combines animal and logistics sciences, processing, coldchain technology, economics and retail. The Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program requires applicant should have animal science, veterinary, logistics, transportation, Economics, Industry Engineer, Family and Consumer Science, background to be admitted for this program. The classes are normally scheduled Monday to Friday. The first three-month will be carried out in the classroom, the next three-month will be internships work will be carried out in companies related to livestock logistics, work placement according to student’s  qualifications and interests. The three-month internship in will be in the company/community members who joined in Indonesian Animal Logistics Forum (FLPI). It is expected that the program will help students in developing their  future carrier.

The 1st module has been started, it was the Production System For Safe Animal Products, by Dr. Irma Isnafia Arief.  In addition to class activities will lab works will also be scheduled.  Other guest lecturers invited were from practitioners who explained the role of Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) and food safety management in the food industry, especially processed livestock products.

"Inviting practitioners as guest lecturers is a series of each course in the Undergraduate Program Plus Logistics of Animal Husbandry IPB. To improve the benefits and to widen its outreach,  this guest lecture was carried out in as the Studium Generale that invites the graduate students in the Faculty of Animal Husbandry IPB as participants, "said Drs. At Studium Generale on 14 August 2017, was held at FAPET’  Dean Meeting Room, IPB Campus, Dramaga Bogor. The invited guest lecturer was Dwi Rizki Tirtasujana, S.TP, alumni of IPB from Food Technology and Nutrition Study Program who got  experienced in food industry for 17 year. The event was attended by approximately 30 participants consisting of  students of Sarjana (S1) Plus Animal Logistics Program, and also some of the graduate studies program of the Faculty of Animal Science of  IPB. "Although I have been working as a production supervisor at the livestock companies, but I want to improve my professional performance in the Quality Control, especially to understand its roles in the job, " said one student of Bachelor Plus Logistics Ranch, Visista.
