IPB Students Create Educational Games Called Selendank to Prevent Sexual Crimes
Concerned about the frequent cases of sexual crimes, students of the Department of Economics of Economics and Management (FEM) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB, namely Citra Atrina Sari, Risyda Aulia, Ixananda Arcedia Renzy, Aris Kristianto and Sabri Rahman Siregar make a breakthrough, an educational game called Selendank (Snakes and Ladder Education Game for Kids). This game is made in Student Creativity Program (PKM) of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) RI.
This sexual education for children is packed with a unique, simple, and fun form of a snake ladder game. They practiced playing the Selendank game at SDN (Elementary School) of Bondongan, Bogor City. In this game, the pupils become active players in the board game designed with an area of ??4.6 x 5.8 meters. The students are shown a short video presentation of sexual education to increase knowledge to take care of themselves just before playing. A simple sexual education material is packed in envelopes in each box and students are accompanied while reading the material. Another interesting of the game is that there are treasures in some boxes to add to the excitement of the game. These treasures can be beneficial or detrimental, for example the player can get a one more bonus to roll the dice, or the player must step back a few steps, and so on.
Each box on the board is colorfully designed with pictures of traditional clothes and houses of various provinces in Indonesia. This is to always remind the children to love the diverse Indonesian culture. The provincial names are written in English. This is to teach and familiarize them with English speaking, especially in this increasingly modern world.
Children's responses were very positive and enthusiastic in that they felt the fun but were also exposed to with self-control materials against sexual crimes. This is also the case with the school.
With Selendank game, the number of sexual crimes in children is expected to reduce as it can damage the future of Indonesian children, create a generation who have early knowledge on the dangers of sexual crimes so that their chances of falling into the victims of sexual crimes will be lower, and form personality and character of children who loves Indonesian culture.
Under the supervision of a lecturer Salahuddin El Ayyubi, the IPB-PKM team of Selendank plans to introduce and guide the parents and mothers in PKK community in the surrounding so that this education will not only stop at the children, but parents also need to know this as the main person responsible for the children safety.
Hopefully this program can be replicated in other schools in Bogor City in cooperation with the Education Office of Bogor City. This program is also expected to be beneficial throughout Indonesia as a preventive effort against sexual crimes in children. (Mtd)
