Questioning the Students of IPB About Insurance
Work Program of Professional Association of Center of Management (COM@), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held the International Seminar on The Role and Implementation of Actuary in Financial Institution. The event was held in the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor (9/5).
As the resource person of the seminar was General Manager of MSIG, Dedi Damhudi. Dedi conveyed that the insurance industry was one of the highly prospective industries for students to have career, in terms of education it was also supported by the government, it was proven by the insurance academy. Other than that, the workforce in the insurance was not enough in the Academy of Insurance alone, but it should also get the professional certification. “The insurance company wants the firm to understand, so it can convince the customers in order to transfer the risk and the benefit from the insurance product,” he said.
He said, the insurance industry in Indonesia was huge, so that the government was very set and its nature was regulative. Other than that, Dedi conveyed that the overview of the basic principle of the insurance agreement was the perfect honesty, so the consumers understood what was guaranteed and what was not covered.
Responding to the question from Fauzi, the student of the Department of Biochemistry, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of IPB related to the importance of the Divorce Insurance, due to the high rate of divorce. Dedi conveyed that it was not an impossible idea to remove the product, because it was considering there was a risk in it. “In some developed countries, there are already selling these products (Divorce Insurance),” he said.
Not only that, other student participants also asked related to the difference of MSIG with other insurance services. Dedi gave one example of MSIG Travel Insurance product which was more guaranteeing not only the self-injury, but it could cover the house and the service cost to accompany in the Hospital.
The events with the themes of “Insurance Product and Manpower Planning Actuary Profession in Indonesia” and “The Role and Implementation of Actuary in Financial Institution” were attended by around 300 students of IPB from various faculties. Also participating as the resources persons were Toga Sinaga from the Financial Services Authority, and Mrs Felicia from MSIG.(dh)
