The Annual Program of the Association of the Community of Tree Grower Profession (TGC) of FAHUTAN IPB

 The Association of the Community of Tree Grower Profession (TGC) of Department of Silviculture of the Faculty Forestry (FAHUTAN), of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) again show its great concern for the environment through its regular work program “The 9th TGC in Action (TIA) in 2016”. The theme this present program  is “Think and Act Sustainable Environment”.

Items of program for the 9th TGC in Action for 2016 among others are,  national seminar on environmental management, competitions, and the Evening Standard for Environmental Awards. On Saturday, 8 October 2016, a group of  TGC undertook environmental action in the Ciliwung watershed, precisely in Gunung Mas village, Puncak, Bogor. Approximately 80 TGC members consisted of IPB students of, the local communities, ecovillage, and Technical Implementation Unit for Hygiene and Sanitation (UPT KS) Regional III of Ciawi, participated in the environmental action. Their program were  stream cleanup (an organized trash removal effort) that aimed at improving water quality of  the upstream watersheds of Ciliwung. Then, they continued to release of 100 tilapia fishes in the watersheds and in the fish-cages. It is expected that the tilapia will increase the biodiversity of upstream Ciliwung. 

The other similar important environmental management program was the planting of 150 trees at the sides of Ciliwung river. They were rambutan, soursop, guava and Jamaica fruits seedlings. Hopefully, in the future our next generations of the communities around rivers will enjoy to harvest the fruits. Moreover, other important function the roots of those trees will absorb soil waters, they will protect the communities from erosion / landslides.
 
Then on 15 October 2016,  TGC organized the National Seminar on " Mengembangkan Sinergi Menuju DAS yang Lestari dan Berkelanjutan = Developing Synergies Towards a Sustainable and Sustainable Watershed". Then it was continued by the  National Youth Environmental Competition (NYEC). NYEC was competition series that aims to increase awareness of the younger generation on the environment through oral and written ideas to create a sustainable environment. The competition consisted of Youth Writing  Competition (KIR) and the Environmental Action Video Contest for high school students, Essay Contest and the National Debate for university students, and it was participated by teams of universities from all over Indonesia.  (Wied).
