DPKHA of IPB Organized Career Debriefing for Pre-Graduate Degree Programme
Directorate of Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA) of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University) organized the Studium General for career debriefing of Pre-Graduate Degree Programme at the Auditorium Andi Hakim Nasution, on Monday, 17 October 2016. Present on this special event, the Secretary of the Institute (SI) of IPB, Dr. Ibnul Qayim, and Director of DPKHA of IPB, Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah.
In her remarks Dr. Syarifah stated that currently around 65 per cent of IPB graduates worked in agricultural fields. She expects that the percentage will continue growing as IPB produces agricultural graduates, thus they should contribute their expertise for the development of the Indonesian agriculture.
Yet, Dr Ibnul Qayim hoped that IPB graduates will serve society best, because it does not just carry their own personal prestige but also the reputation of the University. Therefore, it is expected that the career debriefing will motivate IPB graduates to improve their professional performances, especially in agricultural fields.
Speakers for the studium general were Rector of Tanri Abeng University (TAU), who is also the Chief Commissioner of Pertamina, Dr. Tanri Abeng, MBA; and President Director of PT. Pachira Distrinusa, Mr. Mukhlis Bahrainy.
Dr. Tanry Abeng recommended that IPB graduates should be able to maximize the knowledge they obtained while they have been studying for four years in IPB, and always have positive thinking on the concept of development when they working for the Indonesian problems. On this occasion, he shared his thoughts on the concept of the People Owned Enterprises (BUMR) which is a cooperation or merger of micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives. References for the development of BUMR are the large total number of SMEs and cooperatives in Indonesia, but they are unable to compete with large enterprises; and the economic inequality in the society. In the near future the BUMR will increase the competitiveness and profitability of SMEs and cooperatives, so as to reduce economic disparities and promote Indonesia.
Finally the last speaker, Mr. Mukhlis Bahrainy, who is also alumni of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FATETA IPB) in his presentation he emphasized more on the attitude and soft skills possessed by graduates of the University. As graduates of IPB they should be honest and work earnestly to harness the knowledge they earned from the University. They have to be focused, loyal and won’t trapped in the culture of instant. Moreover, he added that IPB graduates mustn’t only to take job as clerks and bureaucrats, but they must be able to create jobs and find opportunities for entrepreneurship. (Wied)
