Effect of Qur’an Murottal (Recital) on Cow Milk Production
Ghulam Halim Furqoni, a student of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), examined the influence of cow milk production by playing Qur’an murottal or recital. This study is motivated by the previous research that examines the influence of classical music on the milk production of dairy cows. The classical music is played only approximately three hours before milking, so it is recommended to play the music playback longer to have more optimal result.
Finally, staring from a discussion with the supervisor, an initial idea came up – the effect of a 24-hour classical music on the productivity of dairy cattle. On the other hand, Ghulam wondered, is there any other choice rather than classical music that can affect the productivity of dairy cattle?
Mozart classical music began to be introduced in 1993 at the University of California to study at the students there in an effort to increase the level of IQ. The result was the classical music by Mozart could increase IQ by 8-9 points of the students (Bowers 2002). Since that time Mozart classical music has developed in Europe and been used in farming for the purpose of increasing the productivity of livestock.
In other cases, said Ghulam, a lot of studies have made to treat humans with Qur’an murottal such as those who are sick, pregnant women, and others with the majority of the data collected from the hospital. It has been proven that Qur’an murottal has a calmness effect (relaxation) and brings out psychological comfort.
"Departing from such a case, without the slightest intention of bringing religious sensitivity, I propose adding Qur’an murottal as a treatment in my research. Thank God my professor agreed and so was born the title for my thesis ‘Milk Production of Dairy Cattle by Listening to Classical Music and Quran Murottal for 24 Hours’," he said.
Ghulam hopes the results of this research can be useful and easily applied by breeders in Indonesia as part of efforts to increase the productivity of dairy cattle in the country. This study is supervised by Dr. Afton Atabany and Dr. Bagus P Purwanto. (Mtd)
