Quick Action of IPB to Response Hepatitis A Outbreak

Dozens of students of IPB (Bogor Agricultural University)  have been infected by Hepatitis A virus require treatment in a hospital to cure them. The exact number of students who contracted Hepatitits A is not known yet. Inventory is still progress know the number of  students who have been affected by this disease. Based on the current situation of IPB,  Hepatitits A deployment can not be classified as outbreak, it is an extraordinary incident (KLB). Deployment can be regarded as a disease outbreak when the number of patients has significantly increased in excess of the prevalent conditions at a certain period and at the  particular area, which is causing havoc and suffering to the people of the said areas.
 
To solve this problem, IPB initiated to establish Working Group on the  Prevention and Control of Hepatitis Outbreak in IPB, that are consisted of various related aspects. Namely, SEAFAST Center for food safety), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH IPB) for  zoonotic and public health, Department of Community Nutrition for nutritional aspects, the Directorate of Business Development for canteen management and environmental health of the campus, the Directorate of Student Affairs for student welfare aspects, Polyclinic of IPB for curative aspect, General Bureau for environmental hygiene aspects of campus, the Legal Bureau, Promotion and Public Relations for information dissemination and communication aspect. Student organizations have been actively involved to combat the disease.
 
Moreover, IPB has coordinated actively with the Department of Public Health (Dinkes) of the city and District of Bogor to conduct follow-up action comprehensively. In particular, the Polyclinic IPB has been undertaking coordinated measures to control the case. A series of rapid action response has been and will be implemented by the IPBm the steps include:
 
1. Collecting data on students allegedly suffered Hepatitis, 
 
2. Socialization to IPB students about balanced nutrition, food security, profile of IPB canteen as well as curative and preventive actions for Hepatitis,
 
3. Dissemination of information on environmental sanitation and hygienic food supply for the canteen managers from both inside and outside the campus.
 
4. The medical examination of students in collaboration with the District Health Office Bogor.
 
5. Extension on hygienic canteen in and around the campus, and 
 
6. The clean environment movement inside the campus and their residential areas. .
 
Separately, faculty and staff members, student organizations, and individual students participate actively encourage everybody to keep healthy environment and cleanliness of the campus. This information must be disseminated through social media. There is the potential that others may be sick with Hepatitis A now, we must alert with Hepatitis A! Let us keep the environment clean and practice the healthy life. (Wied)
