Himiteka of IPB Implemented Marine Goes to School

Students of the Department of Marine Science and Technology of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK-IPB) who are members of the Student Association of Marine Science and Technology (Himiteka) implemented their program on Marine Goes to School (MGS). This program was planned in conjunction to Department of ITK’ Field Works (PKL), in July-August 2015. The objective of the program is to promote the marine world and the IPB to the high school students (SMA).
 
MGS is the annual work program of Himiteka. This year this program was planned to be implemented at 12 different places, namely Kiluan Lampung, Banten, Subang, Cirebon, Pangandaran, Pekalongan, Tegal, Pacitan, Malang, Trenggalek, Karimun Jawa and Banyuwangi. Itineraries of the MGS’ program  some of which are the introduction of three tropical marine ecosystems, namely Coral Reef, Seagrass and Mangrove. The students were very enthusiastic to participate in such occasion, especially the targeted schools  which are located close to the coast and part of their daily activities usually interact with those three ecosystems.  
 
"Ocean covers 70 percent of Indonesia earth’ surface, it is therefore important to introduce the marine world for students in their early age, so the program to develop  Indonesia to be the World Maritime Axis will come true," said Chairman of Himiteka, Triana. Further, Triana stated that it is one of students’ assignments to share their knowledge gained from the university for community development. (Wied)
