The IPB Delegation Won the Second Winner for the United Asian Debating Championship (UADC)

The delegation of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) won the second winner for the English as Foreign Language (EFL) categories in the most prestigious parliamentary debate championship in Asia, the United Asian Debating Championship (UADC), held on 4-12 June 2015. The delegates consisted of Muhamad Haris Zamaludin (Department of Communication Science and Community Development, Faculty of Human Ecology), Olivia M Tjiptoputri (Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology), and Adhi Hardiansyah (Department of Resource and Environmental Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management).
 
The UADC is a parliamentary debate competition, 3 vs. 3, for delegation of leading universities from Japan, South Korea, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and other Asian countries. It is organized moving each year all around the country in Asia. Last year UADC was held on the Nanyang Technology University, Singapore, and this year it was held at the University of Udayana, Bali. This year the IPB delegate successfully won the competition and went into the grand final for EFL category. In the finale the IPB delegation met the delegation from University of Gadjah Mada, after they have  defeated other delegations from Keio University in Japan, Hong Kong University, and other delegates  from various universities in Asia. The objects of the debates were issues on politics, humanitarian, environment, development, international policy, agriculture, and security issues the world.
 
The IPB delegations who are members of UKM IPB Debating Community (IDC) explained that they have been preparing for the competition for about two months under the guidance of Dra. Alfa Chasanah, MA, the English lecturer of IPB.  Exercises were given to enrich the delegates knowledge on the latest issues on the related subjects to be debated. IPB delegation hopes in the future they will be able keep the university reputation and even Indonesia in the next World University Debating Championship (WUDC), which will be held later this year in Thessaloniki, Greece.
