IPB Organized The Prime Palm Oil Harvest Festivity and the Launching Green Lamb D’IPB

Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA) and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (FAPET) of  Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) have successfully made historical record by successfully realizing the ideals IPB academicians to establish oil palm plantations in Java. Located in the IPB-Cargill Experimental Garden and Oil Palm Research Center, Jonggol, Bogor, on Monday, 25 May 2015, IPB organized the "Prime Harvest Festival and the Launching of Green Palm Lamb D’IPB ". I was then followed by extended executive meeting (Rapim) of IPB which was officially opened by Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr Herry Suhardiyanto.

 
In his remarks, Rector expressed his sincere thanks for PT. Cargill, for its partnership to provide technical assistance and funding support, as well as PT. Sinar Mas that donated superior oil palm seedlings, namely "Dami Mas".
 
"Hopefully this will be our concrete manifestation of our collective in fighting for  palm oil to become important instrument for our national economic growth and equitable development. Whereas the launching Green Lamb D’IPB, hopefully will enable IPB to add its historical record of IPB products, to  become a model of fodder-based quality feeding for sheep farming, "said Rector.
 
Chairman of the Management Team of Experimental Gardens and Oil Palm Research Center, Dr Sudradjat explained that they had to wait for three years to have the prime  harvest. The preparation of seedlings was started in November 2012, it was about 10,000 oil palm, Dami Mas, seedlings donated by  PT. Sinar Mas. Jonggol Experimental Garden and Oil Palm Reseach Center is located in an areas covering about 268 hectares, 168 Ha. Of it is managed by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, 40 Ha. is managed by the Center for Primate Studies (PSSP) of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB, and 60 Ha. is managed by Department of Agronomy and Horticulture – Faculty of Agriculture of IPB.
 
In the same location, Dean of Faculty of Animal Husbandry of IPB, Prof. Dr Luki Abdullah explained the objective of the Launching Green Lamb D’IPB or the opening of a green field of fodders for sheeps. This green fodder field is part of 168 hectares of land owned by IPB, which is equipped by education and research facilities for students of IPB. "In this experimental garden we planned to develop superior sheep. Total sheep to be bred in this field are 580,  they are crossed bred of diseases resistant variety such as worms.  Meat product of this species are excellent, they contain little fat, thus they safe  to be consumed by public, "he explained.
 
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture Faculty of Agriculture, Dr Agus Purwito explained, "It was a long and heavy struggle to establish Jonggol farms. It was dense forest before it was being converted into experimental garden, it took perseverance, high commitment, and good teamwork to implement this great plan. But now that pride has come true ".
 
The Prime Palm Oil Harvest Festival are deeply felt by the presence of the Executive Boards of IPB, including the Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Vice Recto for Academic and Student Affairs, Vice Rector for Resources and Strategic Studies, the Deans and Vice Deans, Directors and Head of Offices, as well as the Chairman of all Departments of IPB. In addition, representatives of PT. Cargill, PT. Sinar Mas, and PTP Nusantara 8, also District Leader of Jonggol along with Muspika Officials, village chief and community leaders. (Wied)
