Effort to Create the Qualified Graduates of SIL Through the Training of Professional Young Experts

Department of Civil Engineering and Environment (SIL), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University got a chance to conduct the training to improve the quality of human resources of students. In this occasion, Dept. SIL in collaboration with Ministry of Public Works (PU) and Training Center for Construction and Equipment Jakarta conducted the training with the theme of “Pelatihan Ahli Muda Profesional / Training of Professional Young Experts”. The training was held for 6 days in a row, from 27 October to 1 November 2014, in the classroom of Dept. SIL.

This training consisted of two types of training, namely Executing Expert of Water Management and Executing Expert of Geothechnical Construction of Water Resources. The total of 61 participants consisting of S1 students in the final level, postgraduate students and alumni of SIL took part in this activity. Chairman of the Committee from Dept. SIL, Yanuar Chandra Wirasembada, S.T, M.Si in his speech revealed that this activity was the activity for the first time held in IPB, where the interest of students who enrolled was very high.

“Training Activity of Professional Young Experts is annual event which is routinely done by Training Center for Construction and Equipment Jakarta in some universities in the areas of Banten and West Java to prepare university graduates who are capable and ready to compete in facing the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) in 2015 later,” said Chairman of the Committee from Ministry of PU, Riswan Saragih, S.H.

This activity involved the experienced instructors and experts. Not only they were from the Ministry of PU and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), but also they were the instructors and experts from Dept. SIL. The type of activity on this training was not only the presentation of the instructor, but also it was the task group, the practice to use the tool, the daily examination and the field study to Jatiluhur Dam in Purwakarta, West Java.

“Dept. SIL seeks to continue to improve the quality of human resources of students, graduates, and young lecturers in various ways. One of them is to conduct the professional training in cooperation with other institutions, amongst others Training Center for Construction and Equipment Jakarta. Therefore, we are very open if there are other institutions having other ideas or concepts to create quality graduates. We from Dept. SIL thank and hopefully this kind of mutual cooperation will continue in the future,” added Chairman of Department of SIL, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Indra Setiawan, M.Agr. (ycw)
