The Department of Physics FMIPA IPB Organized the Training Program on Robotics for SMA Negeri 1 Cigombong

TheDepartment of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) IPB organized the TrainingProgram on Robotics for students of SMA Negeri 1,Cigombong, Bogor. The training was participated by 25 students with 3 (three) companion teachers, (1). The physicsteacher, Ms.Ruth EkaMaryati, S.Si.; (2). The ICT teacher DewiApriani, S.Kom.;and (3). Vice Principal for Student Affairs, Mr.Dadi Abdullah, S.Pd. Ms.Ruth EkaMaryati, S.Si, is alumni of the Department of Physics of IPB. The Trining Program was held at the Hotel Kinasih,Caringin, Bogor, on 23 October 2014. 
 
During the one-day course the students were trained on the basic principles of robotics which included programming and how to turn on the robotic. They seemed so  enthusiastic to participate the interesting course. One of the participants, MuhTaufanMahardika, said that the knowledge he learned from the training was very helpful especially how to understandthe robotics technology. "The Training materials provided were very basic, which are not given for regular school students, that improve his knowledge on the basic principles of robotics," he said.
 
Meanwhile, Vice Principal for Student Affairs, Mr.DadiAbdullah, S.Pd.,stated that the Training Program was very useful for students of SMAN 1 Cigombong. "The students should be thankful and grateful, because not all students have similar opportunity, as they learn special knowledge which is not taught in SMA 1 Cigombong," he said in his remarks. 
 
The team of the Department of Physics was led by the Chairman of the Department, Dr.AkhiruddinMaddu, who was accompanied by three faculty members on Electronics, they were (1). Mr.ArdianArif,M.Si., (2). Mr.HeriyantoSyafutra, M.Si, and (3).EruRustami, M.Sc. The Chairman of the Department of Physics stated that this activity was part of the University outreach and the community development, especially to high school students. "This activity also aims to expand its outreaches and promote IPB, particularly the Department of Physics, so high school students will be attracted to choose the Department of Physics of IPB for their higher degree program," said Dr.Akhiruddin. "These activities are entirely funded by BOPTN 2014," he continued.
 
Dr Akhiruddin also said that such training will be organized regularly on annualbasis  by the Department of Physics to increase student interest in science and technology, especially robotics technology. Even some other high schools wrote to the Department requesting to have similar training program.
 
At the closing ceremony, the Vice Principal of Student Affairs expected that SMA 1 Cigombongwill be put in the Department’ list and  will be notified anytime the Department plan to organize similar activities. As he understands attending such training course will increase student interest in science and technology, especially robotics technology.(Wied).
