Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Financial Services Authority (OJK) held the Islamic Financial Research Forum 2014 with the theme of ?Mewujudkan Industri Keuangan Syariah yang Efisien, Berdayasaing dan Berkontribusi Lebih Besar dalam Pembangunan Ekonomi Nasional / Achieving the Islamic Financial Industry, Competitiveness and Contributing Bigger in the National Economic Development?. The event was held in Grha Widya Wisuda, Campus of IPB Darmaga, 14/10. Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, MSc conveyed that this event was important for IPB, to determine and ensure the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia. ?I strongly welcome the convening of this event and this is the appreciation of the recognition that IPB has had a course lecturer and students who pursue the field of Islamic Economics.? In addition, the Islamic Economics Study Program, eventhough the age was still ?toddlers? but managed to occupy the top five positions at IPB in the tightness in the selection of new students. To the students of the Islamic Economics Study Program, the Rector conveyed, to always maintain the public trust to study hard so that the economy could be more equitable that would strengthen the Islamic economics sector in strengthening the policy in our country.

Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, stressed, that Islamic Economics was the obligation to be implemented. ?West Java has a huge potential. Besides having a beautiful natural resource, West Java also has a potential population of as many as 44,548,431 inhabitants. In addition, West Java is also becoming the center of industry, manufacturing, education and borders the capital of the country, ? he explained. He added, West Java occupied the 3rd highest Gross Domestic Product (PDB) nationally. ?Regional autonomy is the opportunity of Islamic-based economics development. The plans to develop the Islamic economics in West Java are among others: establishing Jamkrida Syariah 2016; coaching and development of BMT and Islamic cooperative, and Distribution of Credit for the Love of Environment Penyaluran Kredit Cinta Lingkungan (KCL), ? he explained. To establish a foreign exchange bank in West Java, Governor expressed that there was a need for a new paradigm to the younger generation related to the ideals of the
younger generation to be no longer acting as an employee but a businessman or trader.

Dr. Firdaus Djaelani, Board of Commissioners of OJK stressed that not only being the challenge for OJK to grow the Islamic Economics in Indonesia, but also a challenge for academicians to continue to develop the research in the field of Islamic Economics. The growth opportunities of Islamic economy was still very wide and needed to be supported by research activities, in addition to the need to increase the number of academicians. ?So far, the growth and the achievement of Islamic banking have been recognized nationally, ? he asserted.

Dean of FEM IPB, Prof. Dr. Yusman Syaukat, said that the event held on 14-16 October was attended by around 2,000 people, including the representatives of 132 universities and 70 rectors and vice rectors throughout Indonesia. This moment conferred the awards to 12 presenters which became the best papers. (dh)
