IPB Visited by “SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta” (Vocational Senior High School)
Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) received a visit of the students of vocational high school (SMK) Diponogoro 1 Jakarta. Approximately 100 students of Class 11 along with 6 accompanying teachers, on Tuesday May 3, 2014 were welcome in the building of Auditorium Toyib, Faculty of Agriculture, Darmaga Campus of IPB. The delegation of SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta led by the Vice Principal, Mamay S.Pd were greeted by the Head of Promotion Division of IPB Dr. DVM. M. Fahruddin. "It is expected that this visit will give motivation to the students of SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta, make them more interested in agricultural studies, especially in IPB," said Fahruddin.
The purpose of the visit as stated by the Vice Principal of SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta, Mrs. Mamay, in her speech, said "The purpose of this visit is to encourage the vocational students of SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta to have interest in further studies in colleges; in our view, IPB is an idol for the students of SMK Jakarta Diponogoro 1, so we come to visit to find out how to get into IPB and what is learned in IPB that has made it very famous," she said.
"So far there has been some assumption that SMK graduates will not be admitted into and study in IPB, and those accepted in IPB are the students coming from the public senior high schools (SMA). Is this right?" said Mrs. Mamay. And IPB as a reputable state university is expected to be able to provide information that could invite the students to choose the majors and faculties appropriate to their ability.
The visit reception began with a general presentation delivered by the Head of Promotion Division, Fahrudin, who talked about how to enroll to IPB, what are available in IPB, and how to study in IPB. All of these were delivered clearly, straightforward, and very convincingly. It was then followed by a discussion and question-and-answer session, which includes:
Intan, a female student majoring in multimedia asked about the competition in finding a job and whether IPB graduates can quickly get a job.
The next question was from a student named Ayu Dara, majoring in Accounting, She asked how a student of IPS (Social Sciences) can be accepted in IPB, and when accepted, whether they will be treated the same as the students of IPA (Natural Sciences), who will then get such courses as physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. How to enroll to IPB and what path to follow?
All were clearly answered by Dr. Fahrudin, saying that as for the potential of getting jobs, IPB graduates have a lot of opportunities, and do not fear they are ready to plunge into the world of work, because they are already equipped with the knowledge and expertise with which they can compete with those of other universities. And IPS students who want to enroll to IPB should take the path of written exam. When they are accepted, both IPS and IPA students will stay in the student dormitories of the First-Year Common Program (TPB), and all will receive the same subjects such as natural science courses.
With the visit, SMK Diponogoro 1 Jakarta expects the students to know and find out the world of education and the world of work to improve their competence. And then a generation is growing, one that is able to integrate the intellectual-emotional intelligence with spiritual intelligence so that the Indonesian nation is capable of standing upright.
