IPB Organized the National Seminaron Microfinance Institutions and the Launching of Joint Degree for Master Program on Financial Crime

International Center For Applied Finance And Economics (InterCAFE), and Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (Institute for Research and Community Service LPPM), of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), together with the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK Financial Services Authority) organized the national seminar on  "Pengembangan dan Pengawasan Lembaga Keuangan Mikro(Development and Supervision of Microfinance Institutions)", on Friday, 30 May 2014. Coinciding with this event, a Joint Degree for Master Program on Financial Crime Launching was launched. This joint degree is jointly established between the  Department of Economics of School of the Graduate Studies on Economics, IPB with AIX Marseille, France.
 
In this national seminar, Dr. Firdaus Djaelani, MA (Chief Executive of the Non-Aligned Financial Industry Supervisory of OJK) was invited as the keynote speaker. Then, the  event was continued by a panel discussion where Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman Siregar, M.Ec was invited as moderator. Several speakers such as Prof. Dr. Giles Duteil (Aix Marseille University), Dr. Ir. Arif Budimanta, M.Sc (Member of the House of Representatives – Commission XI), and Dr. Ir. Nunung Nuryartono, M.Si (Director InterCAFE) were invited.  
 
Vice-Rector for Research and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Anas Miftah Fauzi. M.Eng stated, "When we are talking about Microfinance Institutions in Indonesian, they are really important matters for as all, Indonesia has a diversity of both conventional and Islamic microfinance models. According to BappenasIndonesia is home to various forms of microfinance institutions (MFIs)that meet needs for loans, savings, and insurance. With more than 94,000 MFIs, Indonesia’s microfinance sector is one of the largest in the world”.
 
The official launching of the Joint Degreefor Master Program on Financial Crime was symbolically performed by prof. Dr. Ir. AnasMiftahFauzi. M.Eng, by film play. "IPB has a strong commitment to develop its scientific frontier. Data in the last few years revealed that financial crimes such as corruption, bribery, money laundering burst quite serious in Indonesia. To respond such financial crisis urge IPB as a leading educational institution to develops sciences that are required by the Indonesia", said Prof..Dr. Ir. AnasMiftahFauzi.M.Eng.
 
Financial crime is one of the challenges of sustainable development, and corruption in Indonesia is a  challenge to sustainable developmentas it is a form of financial crime. Both have become important issues in Indonesia. Indonesia ranks as one of the most corrupt nations in the world, coming in at 114 out of 177 countries surveyed in Transparency International’s 2013 Corruption Perceptions Index. Efforts to tackle financial crime both by the individual and the company became an important issue in the global economy.
 
IPB has been participating actively to support the efforts of governments and local communities in tackling crime. Recently IPB has established the pioneerprogram, it is the"Joint Degree" program for "Master of Economics" with the concentration of "Financial Crime"with the University of Aix Marseille, France. In addition to the formal degree program, the International Relation Program will also plan to conduct non-degree programs such as short courses in financial crime. The Short course programswill be planned on 2014, while the joint degree program for master degree on financial crime will be offered in the academic year 2015/2016. Finally, to end the event, the public lecture on  "Money Laundering and Bribery" by prof. Dr. Gilles Duteil of AIX Marseille University was presented. (Wied)
