Bad Dreams of NKRI, Corruption and Bad Bureaucracy

News
The rampant corruption and the bad bureaucracy were the bad dreams being faced by the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This was delivered by Former Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) RI, Prof.Dr.Ir. M. Mahfud M.D, Monday (30/9), in Auditorium Abdul Muis Nasoetion, Campus of IPB Darmaga, as a resource person in the Discourse for Country: ‘Dialogue for Indonesia which is Better’.

“We can take the sample of the rampant the judicial mafia like buying and selling the cases of rampant and the bad bureaucracy because the state apparatus have mentality of inlander,” said Prof.Mahfud.

Further Prof.Mahfud said, if the oil and gas corruption cases did not occur, and the bureaucracy was overhauled, then every Indonesian citizen could get Rp 10 millions per month from the profit in the oil and gas sector. “This is yet another case of corruption of state assets like gold (case of PT. Freeport), marine and forest,” he said.

Prof. Mahfud also assessed that the current bureaucratic system did not protect farmers. The example of cases was in the rice commodity. If the rice price jumped at a certain point, suddenly the import tap was openend. Many other cases which according to Prof. Mahfud increasingly suggested the bad bureaucracy in Indonesia.

Then the solution was not by replacing the ideology of the nation or the constitution, but with the strong leadership, he added, in front of the graduate students of IPB and the youth organizations in  Bogor who attended the event. Prof. Mahfud assessed that the current leader was less giving the “stun” to his subordinates. “Should the President have the power, he can handle this. But it seems that ‘the charge’ is weak,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dean of Graduate School (SPS) IPB, Dr. Dahrul Syah, said in his welcome speech as the educational institution, IPB joined to feel “troubled” how to make this country better. “Currently the pattern of thought is short-term. Our country has quite much politicians, but less statesman. Many traders are but less industrialists are. Many stages are for merchants and politicians through Local Elections. This is compounded by the system of 212. Namely, the two-years return on investment,  one year of work, last two years to raise capital for the next election,” he said. Indonesia with a wealth of biodiversity required a lot of industrialists, IPB had a big job here, he added.

In the activity held by this Discourse Forum of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Mahfud briefly launched the Discourse Book for Country and the Launching Discourse Newsletter accompanied by Dean of Graduate School (SPS), Dr.Ir.  Dahrul Syah and Dean of Faculty of Human Ecology IPB, Dr. Ir. Arif Satria. (zul)
