Experiencing “One-day Lecture” at IPB

About 2500 male and female students of Secondary High School (high school) and Madrasah Aliyah (MA) from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Sukabumi and Cianjur (Jabodetabeksuci) participated in the “One-day Lecture at IPB”, on 7 September 2013. This special event was organized to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of IPB, held jointly by IPB and BRI Bank.

This activity was intended to introduce the academic life of IPB for the targeted  students. It was expected that through the one-day event they would get experiences to attend lectures and to do practical works in a university under the guidance of favourite teachers, which will be full of  fun. The Organizing committee provided the participants free snacks, lunches and certificates.

The Organizing Committee stated that they expected to have 2400 students will come to join the event, but the number of students came more than their expectations, they were about 2500 students. The participants were not only from Jabodetabeksuci, but they also came from Karawang, Ponorogo, and even from palimanan. Prior entering to classes  at the  Common Class Rooms (CCR) Building, those students were grouped together in the courtyard of the building. The students were accepted by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs of IPB, Prof..Dr..Ir. YonnyKoesmaryono, MS and Chairman of the 50th Anniversary of IPB, Dr. Ir. MeikaSyahbanaRusli.

Activities started at around 09.00 am. With happy faces they immediately entered into the CCR building, the new building which is regularly utilized by students IPB first level (First Year Common Class). At the CCR1.02 for example, the students seemed so anxious to follow the lecture. The Lecturer explained the historical background of the agricultural knowledge up to the establishment of Bogor Agricultural University and its achievements made. After exposure to the course material, they were given opportunity to questions and answers session 15 minutes.

At this session, studentsexpressed their opinionswith the enthusiasm. For instance, Adin, student of SMAIT Insantama, Bogor. He criticized the instability of the Indonesian government, particularlyin agriculture and politicswhich are still alarming. Before responding to that question, the lecturer gave opportunity to another student, Nurul Malik, from SMAN 1 Leuwiliang, Bogor, to express her opinion to respond Adin question. She stated that our national systems should be improved.The “One-day Lecture at IPB”program  consisted of 22 parallel classes with 4 teaching materials. Those materials were on “Up-to-date Agriculture:; Faculties of IPB;  and Departments in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) of IPB.(Wied).
