Career Opportunities of IPB Graduates
The last day of IPB Agrifuture Expo 2013 presents a talk show with the guest speaker Fathan Kamil (President Director of PT . Transamudra, a graduate of Department of Industrial Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology of IPB) , Prof. Dr. Ir . Herry Suhardiyanto , M.Sc (Rector of IPB) and Hesti (Director of PT . Melrimba, a graduate of Department of Agriculture , Faculty of Agriculture, IPB). This talk show "IPB Alumni Career Opportunities " was staged on the yard of Baranangsiang Campus of IPB (7/9) as part of IPB’s 50th Anniversary in cooperation with Bank BRI.
Fathan Kamil said , "Prof. Andi Hakim Nasoetion, the well-known Rector of IPB once said that what we build is common sense. During college learning, the formation of common sense is more measurable and focused. This gives advantages when you go into the community in which the adaptability of IPB graduates is very good; and facing a challenge from his workplace, an IPB graduate can easily get a solution " . He added , " Student activities are important for the formation of the other side beyond the academic . An important one is the character building. The second is the formation of network, so after graduation seeking jobs and opening businesses is not hard anymore"
" At least there are three factors that are of advantage to IPB students . Firstly, they are accustomed to managing plants , animals , fish and microbes, all of which are living things. Dealing with living things is not as easy as taking care of the concrete. Living creatures are complex things. IPB students, thus, have accustomed to dealing with complexity and uncertainty . Secondly, IPB graduates during the college studies were trained with numerical and measurable aspects, so their way of thinking and finding solutions are accustomed to certain standards. Thirdly, plants are related to the environment, an interaction between plant, cattle, fish, microbes to the environment as a whole. IPB is used to looking at things in a comprehensive manner," said Rector of IPB , Prof. Dr.. Herry Suhardiyanto , M.Sc.
Rector further explained that in IPB student program, there is entrepreneurial training program. "The program is to lead the students to great job opportunities in agriculture so that they could work on anything let alone work on the farm. Agriculture is very important, given the continued increase in the number of population, all of whom need foods . This is something that can not be delayed. Therefore it becomes a very important field in the future and a very promising field of business," said Rector .
"It’s important for IPB students to be outstanding . Do not just be an ordinary student . If a student does not participate in the student activities and academically do well, that’s normal. If a student is active in the student activities and academically do well, it’s remarkable,," Rector said .
Hesti on this occasion advised younger fellow students: " Do not forget to get involved in organizatiobs. Experience of communication and working in a team is very important . One thing I was impressed about the IPB is the laboratory work report. It is indeed hard, but this is what makes IPB graduates prepared in this aspect. In the world of jobs, IPB graduates are known to be very skillfull and faster in terms of making reports."
Both of these graduates give testimonies about IPB. "IPB is one of the best places for students," said Fathan. "From the beginning until now, IPB is of quality assurance," said Hesti. (Mtd)
