IPB Cooperation with the District Government of Yapen, Papua

The District Government of Yapen, Papua, established the cooperation with IPB in the fields of education, research and community service and academic development of community. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was conducted (30/8) in Campus of IPB Darmaga Bogor. Attended were the Regent of Yapen, Tonny Tesar, S.Sos, and the entourage of chairman and member of DPRD.
 
“IPB is ready in cooperation with the District of Yapen as expected by the community toward the role of IPB directly and tangibly. IPB will implement markedly through the academic program of community where IPB will send the lecturers to teach and give extension to the community especially farmers,” said by the Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir Yonny Koesmaryono, MS. 
 
Further, Prof. Yonny asserted that the District of Yapen is having the potential to be developed to the marine sector. “Seaweed potential, horticulture, and exotic holiday destination need to get appropriate touch of technology,“ Prof. Yonny said.
 
Previously the Regent of Yapen explained, “The cocoa potential in Yapen is very big.  It is used to be the belle of mainstay.  In the marine sector, we have  grouper fish, leatherback turtle that could reach as big as car.  Meanwhile in the forestry sector, we have gaharu wood that needs to be developed, “ the Regent of Yapen said. He hoped that IPB could help tuna fish farming with the aquaculture system, because this technique was very suitable to be developed in the District of Yapen. “With this cooperation, it is expected that later the community of Papua, and especialy District of Yapen, not only becomes the spectator in the area only, but it should be the business actors,“ he said.
 
Attended in this activity were the Vice Head of LPPM of Community Service IPB, Dr. Hartoyo, Drector of Planning and Development, Dr. D. Iwan Riswandi, Director of Career Development and Alumni Relations, Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah. (wal)
