Teaching Farm: Faculty of Agriculture of IPB Developed Horticultural Plant of Lowland
Faculty of Agriculture of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) working with PT Last West Seed Indonesia organized the Launching Teaching Farm of Horticulture in Cikabayan, Campus of IPB Dramaga (11/6). “The synergy of IPB with PT Last West Seed Indonesia is assessed as having the vision similarity i.e. the importance of teaching farm that puts the horticultural plant of lowland as we develop here if being continued to be developed to be an answer to the environmental problem”, said the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, M.Agr.
Our horticultural centers widely spread in the highland, in the mountain which was on the other side that raised so many problems of erosion, sedimentation and so on. “If only we are able to divert the centers which during this time utilize the highland and even enter the forest area, the protected area, as we see the environmental degradation in the mountain of Dieng, this is certainly an important breakthrough. We are quite concerned with that matter, if only we can develop the horticulture in the lowland, it feels that we can increase the production, also we can solve the environmental problems”, said Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, M.Agr.
“Glad to be here. I have long heard of this teaching farm. Cooperation is an early milestone for us to continue to open the collaboration with universities in Indonesia. We are grateful that this is an obvious example of synergy which can be beautifully interwoven between companies and universities. Our company has 23 years of existence and most of our company experts are from IPB” said the Managing Director of PT East West Seed Indonesia, Ir. Glenn Pardede, MBA.
Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc stated that, “On behalf of the Management and all members of IPB we thank to PT East West Seed Indonesia who has worked with the Faculty of Agriculture of IPB. This is an appreciation of the comrades who study outside agriculture therefore there is no reason to glance on the other field because it is really the solution offered by extensive agriculture for solving the nation’s problems. For the environmental problems, we can offer a solution, the horticulture which has been developed in the highland can be shifted to the middle plain and the lowland with the innovations and the introduction of an appropriate variety to the middle plain and the lowland, and the reservoir siltation problems. The erosion of horticulture in the highland can be resolved”. (RF)
