In order to restore the glory of the archipelago fruit, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and PT. Laris Manis Utama (LMU) signed a memorandum of understanding in the meeting room of Rector, in Andi Hakim Nasution Building, Dramaga Campus of IPB (15/.5). The major theme in the signing of the memorandum is "Development of the Archipelago Fruit". The agreement was signed by IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc and Director of PT. Laris Manis Utama, Eddy Simon Sim.

"On behalf of the leaders and community members of IPB, I would like to welcome you at IPB campus. We are pleased and excited to start cooperation with PT. Laris Manis Utama, especially in the development of Indonesian fruits, which is the concern of ours all", said Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc.
He informs that the consumption of fruits and vegetables in Indonesia increases sharply. We’ve changed the consumption pattern especially of fruits, vegetables, meat and eggs. But it is not supported by the availability of local products of vegetables and fruits, which as a result relies on imported products. Over time, a new problem has emerged – sharp increase in prices, but no economic benefits for the farmers because we rely on imported fruits.

"I see that PT. LMU has its base activity in this field. It’s important together with IPB to collaborate in the development of technologies ranging from cultivation, maintenance and implementation including postharvest. We have to develop our own technology for tropical fruits. Let’s take a success, not only by signing of the MoU but making concrete steps to identify problems and find solutions," said Rector.

Director of PT. LMU, Eddy Simon Sim said, "I as Director of PT. LMU would like to express gratitude to IPB for the opportunity to develop the fruit of the archipelago. PT. LMU is one of the major companies with distribution throughout Indonesia. It invites Indonesian farmers in partnership programs. It is in charge of packaging and quality assurance of the archipelago fruits. To restore the glory of the archipelago fruits, we can not work alone because of the many challenges. IPB has the competence in assisting with the development of the archipelago fruit from upstream to downstream. (RF)
