Timor Leste Takes Studies in IPB

Timor Leste, through its Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB, improves its human resource capacity in the country.

This agreement took place in the event Refresher on Socio Economics Research for Timor Leste Participans at Bogor Agricultural University, a collaboration between Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB & Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries, (15-24/4).

As many as 15 people from the ministry will be trained on socioeconomic agriculture. The training is not only  on theory but also on direct contact on the field with farmers in Subang, Ciamis, Bandung and Bogor.

"This training cooperation is inteded to support agriculture in Timor Leste and improve agricultural productivity," said Advisor Monitoring & Evaluation Monitoring Seeds of Life program, Mr. Luc Spyskerelle.

According to him, Timor Leste is trying to increase agricultural productivity beyond food crops, such as corn, peanuts, sweet potatoes and cassava.

"This activity is expected to improve the welfare of farmers there," he said. Meanwhile, Dean of FEM IPB, Dr. Yusman Shaukat, said that cooperation with Timor Leste is nothing new as such cooperation has previously been established.

"This is not the first time they work with IPB; earlier it was related to animal farm, and this time it is in the field of agricultural economics. Here they will immediately practice their knowledge by going to the field," he said.

The training, which will last 10 days: 3 days of theory and 7 days of  practice on field, was opened by Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation, Prof.. Dr.Ir M Anas Fauzi. (Mtd)
