The Launching of “Andi Hakim Nasoetion” Foundation
In order to continue the ideals of the late Prof.Dr.Ir Andi Hakim Nasoetion for the advancement of education and science and technology, the IPB Amanah Foundation was launched on Thursday, 20 December 2012, at IPB International Convention Center (IICC). The inauguration was part of the termination program of the 30th Anniversary of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA-IPB).
The IPB Amanah Foundation is a Charitable Institution working in the field of education, with a mission to provide funding support for the educational costs of students in finalizing their studies; research grants and to disseminate of research results to the advancement of science and technology; involving in the provision of educational facilities and research programs, and to reward the Indonesian researchers who contribute to the development and progress of science and technology.
The late Prof. Andi Hakim, was the Professor on Statistics and Quantitative Genetics of IPB and had been Rector for the Institute for two terms (1978-1987). He was noted to be the founder of the 4-year undergraduate program (1972), and the graduate program (S2/S3) which is currently a system of higher education in Indonesia.
Prof. Andi Hakim was also instrumental in establishing the scientific foundation for the admissions system of new students. Their selection process is based on the achievements and grades obtained; prestigious achievement on extracurricular activities in their secondary education / MA. Initially the admission system was implemented in IPB since 1957 and currently has become the national program.
"Prof. Andi Hakim expected that Indonesia should become the highly educated population, and one of the barriers for the Indonesian people who pursue their higher degree programs is the funding supprot. The foundation is there to assist students who need funding support, so there won’t be students fail in their study because of financial problems, "said Prof. Ansori Mattjik on the inauguration of the Foundation. One of the most frequent message told by Prof. Andi Hakim was, if we’ve been at the top (successful) do not forget to help others (who are less fortunate), added Prof. Mattjik. (Wied).
