TFIC-IPB which was constructed in the strategic location adjacent to Common Class Room (CCR) of IPB and Dormitory of IPB and having the concept of eco-building was expected to be able to operate in the end of 2013. The 3-storey building with the area around 1,500 square meters was equipped with the library integrated with the central library of IPB and the other information sources outside IPB through the information and communication technology (ICT), and the centers for student and alumni activities.

Sihol Aritonang, Chairman of the Board of Tanoto Foundation in his welcome speech, said that the education was something that had a special place in the hearts of the founders of Tanoto Foundation, Mr Sukanto Tanoto and Mrs Tinah Bingei Tanoto. They determined that the next generation of Indonesia had access to the quality education, so later they could be actively involved in breaking the chain of poverty across generations in Indonesia. The determination was proved through their dedications to the world of education consistently since 1981.

“It is also likely to be our cornerstone to welcome the development cooperation of Tanoto Forestry Information Center IPB. Moreover, we see that the numbers of forestry researchers in Indonesia are as many as 401 people, today is highly inversely proportional to its forest area. Therefore, our expectation is that TFIC-IPB can give the contribution to the study and the best research from students, lecturers and researchers which will be useful for Indonesian nation,” explained Sihol Aritonang.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Research and Collaboration of IPB, Prof Dr Anas Miftah Fauzi, added, that other than the development cooperation of TFIC-IPB, IPB together with Tanoto Foundation would steep in research about the forest management in Indonesia and in other countries. “We believe that the forest wealth in Indonesia can continue to be utilized properly without damaging the ecosystem if in accordance with the rules. As a means of support, TFIC-IPB also provides a special room for the center study of peat swamp forest ecosystem research, so that the researchers from all over Indonesia can use it as well as possible for the forest conservation in Indonesia,” said Prof Anas who was accompanied by Dean of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB, Prof Dr Bambang Hero Saharjo.
