Center of Coastal Resources and Marine Studies (PKSPL) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Department of Environment and Resource Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB, Department of Water Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB, Study Program of Tropical Marine Resource Economics of Graduate School (SPs) IPB, Study Program of Coastal Resources and Marine Management of IPB Graduate Schoo,l and Discourse Forum of Tropical Resource Economics IPB held a National Seminar of Blue Economy at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), raising the topic "Blue Economy and Sustainable National Development" (28/11). The seminar was attended by the Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Sharif C Sutardjo.
The activity was symbolically opened by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir Yonny Koesmaryono, MS. "We consider this seminar very strategic for IPB and Indonesia; given that Indonesia is the biggest archipelagic state in the world and rich in natural resources (both biological and non biological) with the potential maritime and marine functions that can make Indonesia as a major economic power," said Prof. Yonny.
Director of PKSPL-IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir Tridoyo Kusumastanto, MS explained that the development of Indonesia as an archipelagic country with the characteristics of land that are different from those of ocean requires a development that can integrate the concept of integrated development vision. Indonesia as an archipelago with the dominant sea area requires the concept of an integrated or holistic development of land and sea as a unity by perfecting the concept of previous development. "For this reason, the concept of Blue Economy an alternative in national economic development of an archipelagic state was put forward by the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) at the Rio +20 conference in Brazil in 2012," said Prof. Dr. Ir Tridoyo Kusumastanto, M.S.
"The development of the Blue Economy concept is to accelerate a sustainable marine development as expected. Hopefully the topics raised by the speakers who represent the legislative, executive and academicians as scheduled can be developed in order to deal with the Indonesian national development equitably and sustainably," said Prof. Dr. Ir Yonny.
