Chairman of MWA: Six prospective candidates for Rector of IPB
Bogor 1st November 2012. Six prospective candidates for Rector of IPB (Bogor Agricultural University) have been selected, and the selection process has involved the academic communities of the University, on Wednesday, 31st October 2012. This statement was expressed by the Chairman of MWA (Board of Trustees), Prof. Dr. Chozin, for reporters in Bogor, Thursday, 1st November 2012.
"Today we have submitted the official report on the six candidates of Rector based on the the communities aspirations to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for further process. Those six candidates then will be selected to be the three candidates. The official result will be reported further to the MWA" he said.
The six prospective candidates who were selected based on the community’ aspirations are as follows: (1). Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardianto; (2). Dr. Asep Saefudin; (3). Prof. Dr. Zairin Junior; (4). Dr. Bayu Krisnamurti; (5). Prof. Dr. Roedhy Poerwanto; and (6). Prof. Dr. Indra Jaya.
"The official results of the selection process based on the aspirations of the University communities consisted of various elements such as faculty members, educational staff, and students is accessible on the official website of the Election Committee for IPB Rector, which was formed by the MWA on http://ppr.ipb.ac.id". According to the website, the Academic Senate will elect the three candidates in their Senate Hearing to be held on 6th November 2012.
"I appreciate highly for all members of the Academic communities for their enthusiast to participate by giving their aspirations for the selection of IPB Rector. The selection process was implemented orderly and in the constructive methods" Dr. Chozin said. "The Selection Committee for Rector (Panitia Pemilihan Rektor – PPR) chaired by Prof. Toto Toharmat has been working harder to organize all the selection procedures," he added.
The selection process of the Rector by MWA in its plenary meeting is scheduled to be held sometime on 9 – 16 November, 2012. Members of MWA of IPB are as follows: (1). Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nuh as the Minister of National Education; (2). Dr. Suswono; (3). Dr. Sugiharto; (4). Prof. Dr. Didik J. Rachbini; (5). Ahmad Heryawan as the Governor of West Java; (6). Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto as Rector of IPB; (7). Representatives of Academic Senate and a number the community at large total is 21 (twenty one) members. Present Chairman of the MWA is Prof. M. Chozin, and he is assisted by Dr. Mukhlis Yusuf (as Vice Chairman) and Prof. Rizal Syarief (as Secretary).
On this election process for Rector by MWA, as the Minister of National Education Culture, he has 35% of the vote rights. The remaining votes will be divided equally to the 19 other members of MWA. As the ex-officio member of MWA, Rector of IPB, does not have any voting rights.
Chairman of the Academic Senate (SA), Prof. Dudung Darusman suggested that each Member of the SA should select three candidates based on their qualitative assessment, the track records of both academic and non-academic, as well as their concepts on the development of IPB in the near future.
"At this stage, the big six most qualified faculty members who will be capable to lead IPB were selected, but the Academic Senate will continue to select the big three candidates as requested MWA" he added.
"The biggest challenge is how to make IPB to be the strong magnet for agricultural stakeholders, especially farmers and fishermen in rural areas," he said. (Wied)
