Prof.Dr.Ir. Ibrahim Lutfi Nasoetion reached 65 years of age on May 3, 2012. This age marks the end of his service as a faculty member and researcher at Bogor Agricultural University, in which has been engaged for about 39 years.

In the retirement ceremony held at IPB International Convention Center (IICC) (13/6), Prof. Lutfi gave an important message to all the invited guests to continue to guard the land and agriculture in Indonesia. Prof. Lutfi is very worried about the present condition of agriculture and land in Indonesia. "I am very concerned about the current condition of the farmers. Modernization has reached all remote areas of Indonesia. Even the small farmers (landless) are now made accustomed to motorcycle loans and possessing a cellullar phone. With insufficient income, their money are used up to buy petrol and pulses. That is not the development progress that I have expected. Therefore, addressing to Mr Ernan and his colleagues at the Department of Land and the entire academic community of IPB, please help farmers and and take the side with Indonesian farmers," said the man born in Padang Sidempuan, May 3, 1947, who has served as Head of National Land Agency (BPN) of RI.

During his term both as Vice Head and Head of BPN at the time, Prof. Lutfi often wrote articles in Hiti (Soil Science Society of Indonesia). His articles were intended to respond to the problems encountered on the field. He said that the soil science curriculum in Indonesia only sees land as a plant growth medium, even though there are a myriad of issues beyond that, which have never or rarely been discussed thoroughly.

In the book "Cum Laude Mount Salak", a story of intelligence and daring style of the Son of Medan, which was distributed to the invitees, a student under his supervision comments, "In Academic Year  of 1972/1973 Mr. Luthfi was the only IPB graduate with cum laude predicate. Also in his speech as a representative of the graduates, he even cited and commented on the world scientist, Einstein. It indicates how intelligent he is," he said. (Mtd)
