Taking advantage of Golden Generation for Family Resilience

Indonesia as the fourth most populous country in the world has a great potential in terms of human resources. Moreover, Indonesia is experiencing what is called a demographic bonus in the years 2010-2035. It is the term in population to describe the high number of productive labor force or population (aged 15-64 years) available in a country.

"The birth rate in Indonesia was stagnant from 2002 to 2007, i.e. at the rate of 2.6. This condition will cause a potential demographic bonus in Indonesia in 2020 until the 2030’s. However, if the birth rate falls, the demographic bonus is likely to delay," said Deputy for Division of Family Welfare and Empowerment in the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN), Dr.Sudibyo Alimoeso, MA in the Family Day Seminar entitled "Harnessing the Golden Generation to Achieve Family Resilience ", Saturday (2/6) in the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Darmaga Campus of IPB. This activity was organized by the Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology IPB.

Dr.Sudibyo says, the demographic bonus that will be experienced by Indonesia could become a positive opportunity as long as good policies are maintained. "If good policies are consistently maintained, the demographic bonus could be an opportunity, not a threat," said Dr. Sudibyo. Indonesia’s current productive population reaches 120 million people of the total population. Of these, the people who work are in a great number. The unemployment rate is expected to continue to decline and reach the ideal point below seven percent. Dr.Sudibyo adds that BKKBN also tries to improve and encourage the creation of qualified family. He hopes the demographic bonus can be the basis for Indonesia’s economic growth.

The family security expert of IPB, Dr. Euis Sunarti presented the results of academic studies related to the effort in improving the family resilience. "We did a small survey of the meaning of family from the audience. The survey revealed that all respondents consider the family as having significant meanings in life. This will be a valuable social capital in life," said Dr.Euis after reading the survey results. (Mtd)
