IPB Researcher of German Alumnus Prepared New Research for Conservation in Siberut Archipelago
The attempt to develop Siberut Conservation Programme since 2002 was initiated by IPB and Deutsche Primate Zentrum (DPZ). Directorate of Research and Strategic Study of IPB organized the workshop with the editorial of Siberut Conservation Programme (SCP) New Research and Community Development Initiatives in the Meeting Room of the Faculty Senate in Campus of IPB Dramaga, (8-10/12).
This workshop besides presented the researchers from German, also presented the research staff of IPB alumnus from German. The participants would give new thoughts related to the next research which would be developed at SCP.
Vice Rector for Research and Collaboration, Prof. Dr.Ir. Anas M Fauzi in his welcome speech delivered that IPB had a good relation with German. German was the second Country after Japan having the majority of alumnus number at IPB. It had been around two hundreds people of teaching staff of IPB were the the alumnus from German.
Meanwhile, German Director of Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Dr. Irene revealed her happiness that German was one of the more selected countries for the teaching staffs of IPB. “DAAD as the organization facilitating the student exchange to study in German feels happy that German Country has become the choilce of the teaching staffs from IPB “, she said firmly.
Besides that related to Siberut Conservation Programme she conveyed that the alumnus was hoped to be active in giving ideas or initiatives among alumnus in various diciplines mainly their relatedness with the conservation and biodiversity problems and the continuity of the land use speciallly in Siberut Archipelago.
In the workshop of IPB, the concept of the Center of Excellence Tropical Biodiversity of IPB was introduced, this concept consisted of the combination of researchers who cooperated to use the best research practices around the biodiversity to reach the collective goal.
This concept could be developed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the result of biodiversity research. Also it could increase the research value of IPB in biodiversity. Besides that, it could also increase the public satisfaction about the research result in the field of biodiversity. (dh)
