IPB Students Developed the Eco-Pump without Oil Fuel and Electricity which was Non-stop 24 Hours
The availability of clean water and the management of water processing in agriculture became the attention of six students of IPB. They’re Muhammad Nafis Rahman, Hafiyyan Naufal, Nopri Suryanto, Noor Hasan Nawawi, Aditya Nugraha, Adi Purnama Nur’aripin from the Department of Machine Engineering and Bio-system (MEB) by developing the hidram pump and the water filler which were environmental friendly.
“The beginning of the development of Eco-Pump is formed the background of the condition of rural area which is scarce of clean water. In the rural area in Bogor, the water supply is indeed not lacking, but the need of clean water is less, so it is necessary to have the technology of efficient innovation which is in accord with the criteria and specification of the area. The water pumping up is in accord with the scope of village and there is the limitation of energy that pushes us to design the new innovation,” said Nafis.
Nafis added that the technology of hidram pump of the design result of this MEB student made use of the strength from the dynamic water with the energy used to accelerate the energy to cause the water to go upward. This technology was designed without using oil fuel and electricity to alleviate the load of community in the rural area.
“Besides that, we also design the water filter from material and component coming from the rural area. It is simple, the pebble, coconut fiber and other material which are existing we make use of in the rural area, so this innovation does not leave the local wisdom,” he said.
The working principle of this Eco-Pump adopted the hidram pump, i.e. divided into two valves: spillway valve and extortionist valve. The water entered the jumping down through A pipe, the spillway valve was opened while the extortionist valve was closed. The water that entered filled the pump house and pushed upon the spillway valve until it closed.
With the closed of spillway valve, it caused the entire water pushing to press and open the extortionist valve and the water entering to fill the room in the compression tube on the extortionist valve. In the certain volume of the water filling up in the optimal compression tube, the water and air mass in the compression tube would press the extortionist valve to recover at the same time some of the water going out through B pipe.
With the closed of both valves, the stream flow in the pump house turned over to be contrary to the entering stream flow, followed by the declining of spillway valve, because the direction of water pressure was no longer to the spillway valve but turned over to the direction of input A pipe. At this time, the blow of water hammer happened, where the water with the gravity energy from the jumping down struck hard the feedback, 2/3 of debit went out the spillway hole, meanwhile 1/3 of debit pushed the extortionist valve entering into the pump tube as well as pushing the water in the pump tube to go out through output B pipe. Thus, the energy blow repeatedly channeled the water to the higher place.
“So in general the hidram pump is used for distributing the water in a large amount from lowland to highland. This Eco-Pump can even work for 24 hours so the water need in a large amount can be fulfilled even for the need of one neighborhood association. This innovation has been applied in Situ Daun village, Tenjolaya Bogor District,” firmly stated.
The application prospect of this technology for the community was very big. The local government of Gunung Kidul had stated the wish to apply this technology in the area. Besides that, this technology had ever been presented in Nigata University (Japan), Chiang May University (Thailand) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Before getting the Favorite Champion in the Youth Technopreuner Bank Mandiri, this innovation had ever been submitted to Student Creativity in Research Program. “The result is not satisfactory, we do not pass the SCRP, but we have the principle that an innovation or technology is obligatory to be applied and spread to the community,” he added.
As a student, the thing which is very easy and simple to do is that we sufficiently apply the knowledge which we obtain for community. We have responsibility toward the knowledge we have, since we are subsidized by the people through the tax they pay. Realized or not, we have the obligation to apply the knowledge that we obtain for subservience to the community. God willing, we get the hereafter,” he stated firmly.(zul)
