About two hundred students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) explored the experience of becoming young documentary filmmakers in the 8th Road Show of Eagle Award at the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Darmaga Campus of IPB (18/3). The Eagle Award program, one of Metro TV programs, provides a medium for creative young people to critical of factual events and problems happening in the wider community in order to inspire changes.

This activity is held in cooperation of BEM-KM IPB, Directorate of Student Affairs and Metro TV. It was enlivened with some of the best movies of Eagle Award of 2011, such as Gubuk Reot di Atas Minyak International (Old Shack on International Oil) (2007), Habibie dari Selokan Mataram (Habibie from Mataram Ditch (2010) and Beasiswa Ala Bajo (Scholarship Ala Bajo) (2010) the (2007), Dongeng Ajaib (Magic Tale) (2010).

"These movies shown are very touching, informative, and reflect the reality of life in Indonesia. This annual event organized by one of the private TVs triggers enthusiasm, especially of the youth aged at least 20 years to produce work of telling social facts through the audio visual media," said Ade Suherman, one of the participants.

In addition, there is also an interactive dialogue with Tomy Almijun Kibu (Director of Scholarship Ala Bajo Film in the Eagle Awards of 2010), Lilis Sucahyo (Director of Pengumpul Asap Film, 2009), The Best Idea and Finalists, Tedika Puri Amanda (Junior Producer of News Magazine, Metro TV) an alumnus of Eagle Awards 2007 and Gerzon R Ayawaila (Documentary Film Director as well as Lecturer of FTV IKJ), with the moderator of Host program of Archipelago Metro TV, Prita Laura.

Uniqueness of the documentary movie is the demand to provide a unique perspective on the social facts and present it creatively. A good documentary movie should be able to convince the audience to agree on or at least think about the facts being displayed.

"In the documentary movie, all elements can be approached and played. Plants, animals, inanimate objects or figures can be turned into a new angle. IPB has great opportunity," says Gerzon.

This year the documentary film-making is reopened for registration and only 5 lucky teams will be funded by Metro TV to create a movie out of ideas proposed. This year’s theme raised is Indonesia Tangguh (Resilient Indonesia).

The synergy between the Eagle Awards and young people produced inspiring stories of different points of view that are unique and decisive. Through the Eagle Awards, young people are invited to care about and critical of the circumstances around them and enable them to be documentary filmmakers of Indonesia. And through the ideas of young people, Eagle Awards try to invite the public to look at different potentials of Indonesia behind the many problems being experienced. (Mtd)
