The Best Students of TOKI will be Admitted to Study at Bogor Agricultural University
Up to early March this year, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) has been selected to be the Training Center for the Second Phase of the Tim Olimpiade Komputer Indonesia (The Indonesian Team for the Computer Olympics – TOKI). "The TOKI Center was established to prepare the participants to participate in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Milan, Italy, upcoming September," said TOKI’ Office of the University, Ir. Julio Adisantoso, M.Kom., and was accompanied by Musthofa, S. Kom, M.Sc . TOKI coaching, which has been organized by the Directorate of High School (SMA), the Ministry of Education and Culture, is located at the Baranangsiang Campus. The lecturers are faculty members as well as the TOKI alumni from University of Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), Bogor Agricultural University, and Nanyang Technology University (NTU) Singapore.
Indonesia has selected participants from among high school students (SMA) with a gradual process, and the recruiting system starts by organizing the regional level of Scientific Olympiad, Olimpiade Sains Kabupaten/Kota (OSK). 2 (two) best students of each regency will be selected as representatives for the Provincial Science Olympiad (OSP), then 100 (hundred) students of among the provincial contestants, will be selected to attend the National Science Olympiad (OSN), and they will be prepared to represent Indonesia in the IOI event. Later, of the 100 (hundred) national participants the top 30 best students will be selected. "Those 30 national winners will be awarded 5 (five) gold medals, 10 (ten) silver Medals, and 15 (fifteen) Bronze Medals. They were then sent to participate the First Phase of TOKI Development Program, held at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Finally, of the 30 best students, 16 (sixteen) of them will be selected as the grand finalist, "said Julio. Those 16 (sixteen) best students are undertaking the TOKI Coaching Program at Bogor Agricultural University at present. Then, the best eight participants will be selected. The next best eight participants, then will be selected into the best four, and they will represent Indonesia for the IOI event.
As a token of appreciation for the outstanding students who won the gold medals in the OSN, the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs IPB, Prof. Yonny Koesmaryono, on behalfe of the University has granted them admission to be students of the University by the International Achievement of the National (PIN) system. "I hope those talented students will accept the invitation to pursue their higher learning at Bogor Agricultural University and cooperate together to build our country," said Prof. Yonny.
Chairman, Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Bogor Agricultural University, Dr. Ir. Agus Buono, M.Sc. M.Kom highly appreciated the Ministry of Education and Culture to trust the University to be the Training Center for the second phase of 2012 TOKI. "It shows though the Department of computer science is still fairly young, but its quality is recognized similar to those of the Department of Computer Science of UI, ITS, UGM and ITB," said Dr. Agus.
