The Visit of Students of SMA Islam As-Shofa, Pekanbaru

A total of 90 (ninety) high school students of SMA Islam As-Shofa, Pekanbaru, visited Bogor Agricultural University. The reception was held at Academic Senate Function Room, Darmaga Campus, on 11 December 2011. The Principal of SMA Islam As-Shofa, Pekanbaru, Ms. Sufrida, expressed the objectives of the visit especially students of the 11th grade. They visited the University to explore and get first hand information on how to get into the Higher Learing Institutions, especially Bogor Agricultural University. It was the  11th grade students in the team, as when they are in the  12th Grade they have to prepare  for the National Exam. According Ms. Sufrida the interest of students to pursue their study at the University is very high, it was shown by their high demands to visit such University. Ms.  Sufrida informed that the present trip was the third for its kind to visit Bogor Agricultural University.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the University, Dr. Ir. Bonny PW Sukarno, in his remarks informed that the University requires that freshmen students have to undertake common preparation classes (TPB) and stay at the dormitories. Such requirements do not carried out in other universities. For freshmen, TPB is the critical time for them, as they have adjust themselves to enable to them to achieve minimum 1.5 GPA. Dr. Bonny stated that the  students will be dropped out of the University when they fail to achieve such requirements, but they will be guaranteed to be graduated from the University if they are successful to achieve the requirement at the TPB. Further, he expressed the successful implementation of such curriculum for TPB at Bogor Agricultural University, it will be paternized by other  universities such as the ITB and ITS is certain.

Further, he expressed that the University’ students are taught how to think systematically, measured and gradual. Thus, it is common for  the graduates of the University to get jobs in  various disciplines rather than agriculture, he said. He stressed, that the the agricultural disciplines are not only cultivating crops and rice fields, but there are various products derived from agricultural products. (Wied).
