Involvement Veterinarian in Illegal Wildlife Trafficking is Important
The spread of issues on infectious disease that are transmitted by animal to humans (zoonoses) such as Avian influenza, anthrax, rabies, leptospirosis, etc. has got a lot of attention globally, especially the animals which have the potential of transmitting those diseases. The causes of such condition might be the industrial pollution and human activity as well, and probably is closely connected with the issue of global warming, environmental degradation and land conversion. As stated by the President of the Association of Veterinary Pathology in Asia (ASVP), Prof. Bambang Pontjo, in the 5th Congress and Conference ASVP 2011, which is coincidence with the 10th Indonesia Veterinary Pathology Association Symposium with the theme “The Role of Veterinary Pathology in Animal Health for Improving Eco-Health”, held at the IICP (IPB International Convention Center), Bogor, 22 November 2011.
Further, Prof. Bambang stated that effects of IPB International Convention Center the transmitted diseases by animals made the disharmony relationship between humans, animals and the environment. Especially in Asian countries where its population is growing rapidly usually they have great risk of the environmental problems due to industrial, agricultural, or other activities. The degraded conditions eventually lead to the emergence of many health problems in humans and animals.
Symilar statement was also delivered by Rector, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, MSc. in his opening remarks. He expressed that veterinary pathology is also expected to involve to be witnesses of cases by many parties in the trade of Illegal Wildlife Trafficking. In addition, rector stated that the symposium is an excellent opportunity for the University to host the symposium which coincided with its congress, which was participated by ASVP member countries.
The present Congress and ASVP Bi-annual Conference is the 5th for its kind, symilar event on 2003 was organized Tokyo, Japan, on 2005 in Seoul, South Korea, on 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan, and on 2009 in Bangkok,Thailand. More than 40 posters were exhibited in the scientific publications of this Symposium. (Wied).
