Statistics, As It Is and Important
Statistics is important not only in science but also in all sectors. With the statistics we can find out if a program works or not, which can not be manipulated and misled because it shows what it is. This was described by IPB Statistical Expert, Dr. Asep Saefuddin in the commemoration of National Statistics Day in the RRI Evening Dialogue program, (27 / 9).
"The National Statistics Day, which falls on Sept. 26, essentially reminds us that everything will come up in the form of statistics or numbers. Governments in various countries understand that the statistics is important as an indicator of the government or state successes. Therefore, on that day we commemorate the statistics day," he said.
According to him, as for the development of statistics as science, Indonesia is still far behind other countries. This is because the effect of statistical science need is not seen to increase income, so not many people choose this field.
"However, for the last 4-5 years many young kids have been literate in statistics, indicated the increasing number of marketing research agencies that require statisticians. They are engaged in marketing research, rating product selection, as well as research on consumer habits of a particular food or clothing," he said.
Dr. Asep also says, one of the pioneers in Indonesia in the statistical world from IPB, is the late Professor. Andi Hakim Nasoetion, who was also the originator of the International Country Society for Statistical Science. (Mtd)
